new shooter, old Nylon 66

Well, its been awhile, but today my Nylon 66 22lr claimed another newbie! A very good friend asked to go out shooting so we could introduce his grandson (16 years old) to the shooting sports. My friend had not been shooting for about 10 years---his grandson had never held a real gun (he did inform me that he had fired guns many times on video games---not the same thing I told him). My friend had brought along a older Marlin single shot 22 with scope---I wanted to show him how to use iron sights before we moved on to the scoped rifle. Once we had gone thru the safety drill, I explainded how to use open sights and how everything about accurate shooting came down to sight picture and trigger control---he started shooting well (how nice it would be to have his young eyes again). This 45+ year old 22 semi-auto did its part---no jams---couldn't seem to miss! Interesting that this is the rare gun that I own that has never been properly sighted-in on paper targets---the first time I shot it, it hit EVERYTHING it was pointed at. I never shot it for groups---it just keeps on hitting! Great to introduce another young person to shooting and a very pleasent shooting day with my old pal.

Sounds like you, and the lad, had a great day. I have a Nylon 66 that was my Dad's, always fun to take to the range, eats everything and never complains.

I love my Nylon 66. Has always been accurate and eats everything as well. It's my go to .22 even over my 10/22

My father grew up shooting his dad's Nylon 66. One of my uncles now has that rifle and someday I hope to have.

One of my greatest regrets in life is taking my Nylon 66 completely apart.
Don't do it.
What a cool little rifle that was!

I love my Nylon 66. Less than 200 rounds thru it. I hardly shoot it.

Yeah, Nylon 66---GREAT little rifle---just don't ever try to take it apart! Fortunately, I have an old book that tells and shows with pics how to take the little guy apart---still, I would NOT recommend taking it completely apart---just remove the barrel and try to remove the gunk under the metal cover.
