    GSG-5 vs MP-5 .22.

Looking for my next plinker rifle. Is the only difference the manufacturer and looks? Is one better than the other?

    fixed:

Other then HK look and feel and manufacturer all I can say is the barrel twist on both is shy of 1x16, also Umerex uses a sleeved barrel on their AR (you may want to check) so I would conclude that it is Manufacturer and look the make them different.

Do you need an AR15 lite or no?

HK MP5 .22 by Umarex is what I am comparing to the GSG-522. Hope this clears up my comparison.

          I own a 1st gen ATI/GSG GSG-5.
I've put about 3000 rounds through it and has been suprisingly reliable.
It's a great plinker and the only compliant I have about it is the standard stock, isn't that great.

If I was currently in the market for a .22LR MP5 style rifle, I would choose the Umarex/Walther/H&K MP5 .22LR.

Reason, the Umarex is easier to dissassemble which makes maintenance easier.

Accuracy, reliability and ergonomics are the same.
But, the Umarex is easier to dissassemble/maintain.

However, a plus side to the GSG is that magazines are easier to obtain than the Umarex.

I bought GSG-5SD on looks alone. None of them have target grade accuracy, so they are just a fun plinking gun. GSG 5SD has fake silencer, fit and finish on gun and magazine is very good and it is actually more accurate then I expected. I am very pleased with it. No experience with Umarex MP5.
Here are a few articles from American Rifleman. Umarex is Colt M4 copy, but I suspect MP5 copy is the same except for cosmetic differences.

at turners when they are on sale the GSG sell for $399 and the 15-22 is $449, those are sale prices.
