    Antelope Valley Nightmare

So, I got my new Marlin 795, fitted it with a NC Star 3-9x40 scope (like the scope BTW, $28 at opticsplanet.com) and went out this weekend to zero it at 100 yards behind 3 sisters.

Got the elevation dialed in, but the wind was whipping in all directions so badly I'm not sure if I got the windage set or not. Anybody know of a place near Palmdale where I can set this up for 100yards without getting caught out in a mini-tornado???

ASR is the Angeles Shooting Range, I believe. http://www.angelesranges.com

I think there was a range out by Lake Elizabeth, I went to it once, I just can't remember the name or location.
EDIT: I think this was it... I remember Lake Elizabeth Road... http://www.aplacetoshoot.net

I also used to live in Palmdale, and I hated the wind out there. It was literally windy non-stop almost 365 days a year, absolutely ridiculous.

You might also be able to find a spot out there in the desert to shoot, I know there were lots of secluded spots with a bit of driving.

By the way... Any good gun shops still out in the Palmdale/Lancaster/AV area? I have not been up there in awhile but might be for a day sometime this month or next.

I'm downstream in Saugus. (Please don't pee in the creek )
What with gas prices, for me it is the best option. I like the Senior Fridays for $7 and take my 10 year old Grandson.

I'll check out a place to shoot. I'm going back out with a sand bag and blanket this Saturday to verify my current settings, and I'll probably take a couple of flag stakes with me and just wait for the perfect moment

If you're up here on the weekend, let me know and we'll go shooting

I actually like the wind except for when I'm shooting or spray-painting something!

How did you get up to Three Sisters? Where did you shoot up there? Was it at the private trap/skeet range? I hope we're talking about the same Three Sisters between Action and Agua Dulce, right? If so, next time you go there, let me know.

Calipornya, A Place to shoot will probably be your best bet as far as trying to get a good 100 yard zero. To be honest, a 100 yard shot with an off the shelf .22 is a little bit far but if thats what your looking for, knock em down! Most use a 50 yard zero and with good ammo, it's a great little setup. Keep in mind your stiff trigger along with using a 9X scope at that distance isn't going to be easy, but not impossible to keep good groups. What ammo are you using and what kind of groups are you experiencing at 100? I'll be at APTS on Saturday with my son. Feel free to hit me up and we'll dial that thing in. Just look for the space gun!!!! LOL!

Right now at 100 I feel very confident that with any of the factory ammos I'm using I could nail headshots all day long. But, I really would like to get the rifle dialed in so I can be hitting golfballs. I actually need it to hit golf balls, long story

That being said, I'll definitely need it set up for 100, but I'm fine holding for 50 or whatever. The scope I got is this one:

Super happy with it for the money, I was quite surprised.

out in Lake LA there are a few spots we use to go too, wind was blocked by the Butte's shape. Not sure if it is still cool to shoot there but it was about 2 miles from the road and house's.

The Gun Shop on Sierra Hwy is still one of the best up there, (they do not like evil black guns though)

Thieves are the lowest form of life out there, except for liberal politicians, of course, but that's redundant.

If your out there or need to PM me regarding getting together, I've got some Wolf ammo for you to try. It usually gets pretty good groups amd we'll go from there.
