    Anyone know the worth?

I got my hands on a S&W 48-2, 8". .22 mag I don't think it has been fired, has the box and papers.

I have handled it a bit, and am not to fond of the length and weight of the long barrel. I'm told target shooters were the targeted clientele, but I know it isn't for me.

I'm thinking of selling and putting the money towards a Ruger .22. Anyone know much about this revolver, worth, intended purpose?

    Thank you

If you check gun broker and use the advanced search of the completed auctions you will find that similar ones have sold for $700-$850 in auction . you may be able to get a little more here in Ca. if run across someone that Really wants it . it may well be a tough sell , priced right anything will sell . You could start at $850 in the Classified here and come down from there if you need to.

That is a nice pistol you have there. Was it a gift?

No, a widow I met, (no kidding) just wanted to take her husbands old firearm collection down to the police dept to get rid of them. I told her I would sell them for her, but I swear I had to beg her into it. She had this fear of selling them and then finding out they were used in a crime. When I told her she would need to take some drives to an FFL every time I sold one for her, she begged me to buy them at a cheap price, she wanted them out of her house. I called my pop up and he came over and gave her $200 per pistol, he really didn't have a use for them but couldn't turn down her offer. Ended up with that .22 mag, a S&W 39, a Browning Hi-power, a Marlin 94 carbine .357, and old Winchester .22 she insisted giving me for free,. Every once in a while a blind pig finds an acorn.

If this .22 mag were a 4", or even a 6" I might enjoy it, but that 8" must have had a specific purpose, target shooting silhouettes or trapping, not sure why one would want such an out of balance pistol. I figure better off selling to some one who could use or appreciate it, I'll have to run it by the old man first and see what he thinks. I would much rather have a Ruger 10 shot .22LR to shoot my *** off cheap.

Oooh the squirrels I could take with that thing, if only it had a scope mount, and were 6". Nice piece though. As someone said, it's probably going to take a while to sell here in California. Put it on Gunbroker. You paid $200, your going to make money, or put it up for trade. I bet you could get something equal in value in trade.
