    which model??

I see Turner's has the S&W M&P 15-22 on sale this week, looks like $50 off the regular price.
I thought I would drive down to the new Torrance store and take a look at it.
Does it come in different models or versions?
Appears to on the manufacturer's website, but it also shows a california version.
Is there just the California version to choose from at the store?
    Thanks.

The 15-22 that's on sale at Turner's this week is the "regular" CA-compliant model, with your standard stock, sights, and straight barrel.

The MOE model (below) comes with the Magpul stock, grip, flip-up sights, sling mount, and a threaded barrel. That's the only other model that you'll see told at Turner's or Big 5 in CA.

I know nothing about black rifles or the .22 variant. In the ad above it mentions a threaded barrel, what does that mean?

The threaded barrel allows you to change out the flash hider for barrel shrouds, fake suppressors, and anything else you can screw on the front of the rifle. It's pretty much just for looks on the 22lr platform. The MOE model comes with this, the standard CA compliant does not.

I don't see "Threaded Barrel" anywhere in that ad.
If you meant the 1 in 15 twist, that is the rate of turn of the rifling.
I was under the impression threaded barrels were illegal.

Only on a pistol(and even then you can get a bullet button), not sure why you think they'd be illegal on a rifle.
