    15-22 and general .22lr question

    New shooter questions:
    1. Am I correct that the standard 25 rnd mag is legal in CA?
    2. Generally, for long guns, is there an "approved" list? Thanks all!

Can you buy S&W M&P 15-22s with 10rd mags or do you have to go aftermarket?

          1) Yes a 25round Mag is legal in a 22LR Rimfire, IF you already owned in before the 2000 ban. No, you can not buy any.
          2) No approved list. Just requirements you must follow. See the flow chart linked above.

California M&P 15-22 comes with a dorky 10/25 magazine. Dump those and buy the 10 round shorties. I got rid of my 10/25s after only a couple of uses.

I liked the 10/25's easier to grab the mag but thats my 2 cents. As for 10 rd mags i think big 5 even sells them.

I chopped my 10/25 mag and turned it into a shorty.

Which is better and why. the AR22 or the 15-22?

I'm thinking about an addition to the old Ruger 10/22 and saw the 15-22 in a local shop. It was like an AR, same mag release, same bolt catch, same selector, but it had plastic receivers. What are the AR22 receivers made from?

Which one is less fussy about ammo? My 10/22 is like a trash can, it will eat anything.

I like the 10/25 mags because they're long and easy to grab, and just look good (to me) in the rifle. I hate loading them.

I like the short 10 rd mags because they come with the red follower and load assist tabs (makes loading much easier than the blue follower 10/25 mags with no load assist tabs to help pull the spring down). I hate the way they look in the 15-22, but that's my opinion & taste.

I took the best from both and did this... picked up the 25 rd rebuild kits, that come with the red followers and load assist tabs. Bought the 10 rd magazine restrictors and assembled them with the restrictors in them. I used some loctite on the tabs to 'permanently' make the mags this way (if i want to remove the, I have to use a heat gun and make sure I don't melt the plastic). Now loading them up with 10 rounds is so much easier on my fingers, and it's also much faster than loading the 10/25 mags (if you don't use a bar to help pull down the spring).

thats what I did, that way -GOD willing - the stupid CA law gets changed you just take out that orange limiter (its what I do when I go shooting with family in NV, those lucky free state people)

enjoy your 15-22, I love mine & now my 10/22 is jealous
