    .22 question

Would any LEO give me any trouble if i have a spike tactical fake can on my TacSol AR-22 dedicated upper on a STAG-15 lower with detachable mag?

Will it be okay shooting .22 throught the fake can that is engraved 5.56? Thanks guys.

Like any other gun related thing in California, it depends on the officer, could be anything from "is this a .22?" to not knowing the law and thinking its worthy of confiscation. Does the fake can have any writing on it saying its not a suppressor? Having paperwork handy might be a good idea. Some people carry flow charts with them, again this could get you on your way or a hit to the officers ego that you are walking him through the laws.

Someone else will be of more help for the second question.

I would hope he cpould look at it and tell it's not a real can. The fake Spikes is just an aluminum tube.

Trying to explain it at gun point with a nervous trigger finger wouldn't be worth taking the chance IMHO

5.56 mm = 0.218897". As far as the fake can goes, What's the point (of course I'm 64 years old)? You may face a hassle or worse if questioned by an LEO but if its legal and you just gotta have then ...............

it may not be the best idea to put one on. (A fake can) even on a .22 rimfire. it might draw unnerving attention from LE.

i suppose you might call it a "Barrel protector" but that would not cut it, legally.

i was in a quandary about ordering one on my ST-22 when i ordered it, but decided to stay with the A2 FH.

call an FFL and ask if it's "legal" on a .22 and if they would accept delivery of a .22 rimfire AR that had one.

the way the fake can looks, is that it does NOT cover the muzzle in any way, it just screws onto the muzzle by way of the 1/2"x28 threads and actually covers the barrel like a shroud but is IN NO WAY FUNCTIONAL AS A SILENCER, FLASH HIDER OR MUZZLE BRAKE; it's in appearance only.

it's my guess, that you would not be breaking any law...but it's up to you to check it out.

I have a GSG-5 and it has a fake can on it. I was shooting on BLM property near King City, Williams hill I think. Fish and Game rolls up on me lights flashing, asks to look at my fire arms. I had my GSG, 10/22 and mkIII. He asked about the GSG, once i explained it, he left. It was uncomcortable, but fine in the end.

correct me if im wrong, but the GSG comes with a fake can on it and its not removable? so once an officer sees it up close im sure anyone can tell right away that its just a shroud/cover/extender

encounters may be different in the fake can was added after the fact and that it looks to be "threaded" on and not actually a shroud/cover that is part of the actual barrel

                  just thinking out loud here

The fake can on the GSG GSG5/GSG522 and Umarex/H&K MP5 are all removable.
The GSG one slips over the barrel and is threaded to the front sight base.
The Umarex one slips over the barrel and is threaded at the front of the barrel.

I've been hassled by clueless LEO's for legal suppressors in spite of having all the paperwork that even includes the signature of their boss right in front of them. Don't assume any LEO knows all the laws about all things related to firearms, that's simply asking too much of them.

I've had the exact same experience with BLM law enforcement. "Interesting weapon you have there. That wouldn't happen to be a silencer would it?" No interest in the centerfire Ar right next to it or the handguns, just the GSG.
