Ruger 10/22 n00b w/ questions

Hello Everyone on CalGuns!
I'm new to the forums and I'm a excited to join the dialogues.

I currently own two handguns (s&w .38 spl + walther p22)
Today I started registration on my first rife- a Ruger 10/22 16"

I've been madly absorbed into the idea of building my own "tacticool" rimfire Ruger after viewing the massive gallery forums.

I have a couple questions and would greatly appreciate any insight or opinion!

1.) I am torn between the Tapco Tactical Trainer Stock and the Choate Pistol Grip Folding Rifle Stock- does anyone have a preference over these two?

2.) If I buy the Choate stock, does that fit a .920 bull barrel?

and finally, my silliest 3-part question

3.) is there any CA laws restricting the Choate folding stock with a 16" barrel? Is it illegal to a have the rifle less than 26" when FOLDED or only unfolded? Are threaded barrels a legal purchase for rimfire rifles (adding a brake etc)?

1.) If you want to use a .920 barrel without modifying the stock get the tapco tactical trainer.

2.) Not without modification.

3.) A rifle under 26" when folded is illegal. Threaded barrels and muzzle brakes are perfectly legal

1. The Tapco is a newer design with more tacti-cool options.
2. No, but you could make a .920 fit.
3. 26" minimum in smallest (folded / collapsed) position for CA
3a. Threaded rifle barrels, centerfire or rimfire, are legal in CA.

I'm pretty enthusiastic about purchasing a .920 barrel, I'm assuming the Tapco Standard Stock System doesn't fit that diameter and I'd need the Tactical Trainer version, correct?

Has anyone had any negative experiences with the Tapco? Is the adjustable buttstock woble or is it nice and solid?

I dig the folding stocks too, any further suggestions of stock replacement options I should explore before making a purchase? The butler creek looks pretty janky hence why I mentioned the Choate.

The standard Tapco stock will not fit a .920 barrel.

I'm kinda pissed at Tapco right now, but I have to say this is a great stock. Its what I've been using for almost a year now. http://www.tapco.com/products/ruger/...&productId=140

Just a note, if you're using a stock barrel there is a lot of wobble if you put your hand on the barrel and move, you will move the barrel and the receiver (the entire thing). So even when know you can't see it, the barrel and all is moving when fired which hurts accuracy. I'm picking up a heavy barrel sometime in July to fix the problem.

Two other small complaints, the pistol grip is annoying, I'm not a fan of the SAW style, but it works. My second is the top rail, if you're not using optics like a red dot or scope, its difficult to see the stock sights.

But anyway, the T6 is a great stock overall. Very durable, useful, multi-purpose, and light weight.

Between the Choate, ATI 6 postion Folding Stock and the Butler Creek folder- which is the best route to go? I've already read the Rimline isn't so hot.

Which of these stocks might offer the most amount of modular options?

or eff all those folding stocks and just get the Tapco T6?!?!

I'm indecisive but this is my first build and rather do it proper the first go around!

what ever you get you will love your 10/22. mine never stays home it always comes with me to the range. i have it in a butler creek folder have a Bushnell trophy red dot sight. it is supper accurate and super fun to shoot. (ignore the MK III all the shots were done with the 10/22, i just like photographing them together )
