    10/22 range report.

Took the ruger 10/22 for the first time to the range to zero out the scope and man what a fun rifle . Shot every round flawlessly took a while to zero out about 100 rounds but at the end I was hitting center from I belive 65+ yards with help of my buddy ,that's the farthest the paper target could go. right now it had a centerpoint scope 3x9-32 and a black hogue stock and I think that's perfect I do want to get a bipod but It starting to weigh a lot for a little .22lr rifle

Accuracy can be very sensitive to the torque on the action screw. Bring a driver to the range and play with it a bit. Mine likes it snug not tight.

Did your magazines drop free easily? Hogues had been known to be tight. Many owners sanded mags til they dropped clean. Sanding the stock as done by others seems more correct.

Yeah they where pretty tight .the scope got loose on the mount after 80 rounds I heard a little loc tite works for that issue. I love the simple setup. I wanted a bull barrel but for my purpose I don't think I wanna spend extra cash it was only going to be a fun little plinker.

I would absolutely lock tight your scope base screws. I had issues with 2 10/22's with the scope base coming loose but after a little lock tight I have never had any issue with it. Make sure you use the BLUE lock tight. There are 2 different blue's so make sure you get the right one. If you get the red your scope base might NEVER come off. Glad you like your 10/22. If you are going to mainly be shooting at the range with it I say get the bipod. They are very easy to take on and off so if you do not want it on for certain applications you can remove it easily.

yeaaa, they tend to get heavy

i sold my last bull barrel and replaced them with Heavy taper or sporter barrels from Green Mountain. Could not be happier. let me know if you have any questions about the weight with the bipod, etc, etc. Happy to help

Doesn't feel too bad with the bipod ,don't know if I wanna get a bull barrel. whats the point of a different barrel other than the thickness.

Bull barrels flex/vibrate less than sporter barrels (tapered), hence tend to be a little more accurate. Also less heat build up due to more surface area although that's generally not a problem with 22lr ammo. Now shoot a lot of Aquila 1750fps, Stingers or other hyper velocity ammo in rapid succesion and heat build up can cause accuracy problems in a sporter barrel.

Bull barrels tend to be on target rifles which also adds weight, sometimes a lot of weight for bench rest shooting but you wouldn't want to pack that type of rifle around in the woods when hunting. I have a Kimber 82G with a HUGE bull barrel that weighs over 12 lbs with the scope installed, 10.5 lbs without scope. That rifle has no, zero, zilch movement when shot from a bench.

Stock Ruger barrels are excellent. To gain accuracy with it loose the front barrel band pillar bed/bed the action and first 2" of the barrel (chamber side) and you can shoot 1/2 MOA with Bulk Federal ammo from Walmart at 50 yards all day long. Total cost is under 30.00 (JB Weld, tools misc parts)
