    Safety on 15-22

I can't get the safety to rotate back to the safe mode on my 15-22. I was trying to put a CAA grip on it but it didn't fit too well and now the rifle is stuck in the fire position. Anybody know what I did wrong? Thanks

if the 15-22 is like real AR's, then you must have the hammer cocked in order to go into safe.

other than that, i have no other advice to give, sorry.

Ditto. Pull the charging handle back to cock the hammer and you should be good to go.

        Safety still not working

Tried pulling charging handle back and still won't work. Safety won't move either direction.

Have you tried putting the old pistol grip back on?
If the 15-22 is the same as a centerfire AR it might have something to do with the safety detent.

I'm guessing you may have gotten something screwed up with the safety detent spring. The spring might be kinked or something, or there's something underneath it maybe.

agreed, pull the grip off. some AR grips will not fit exact like on a centerfire AR
              check the detent spring

Since you just changed the grip, the problem is probably in the small spring/detent that holds the safety in place. Pull the new grip off and check the fitment of the spring into the new grip. Compare the depth of teh hole in the new grip to the factory one. Also check to make sure you didn't kink the spring when you swapped them out.

                  OH.

Make sure you put the RIGHT SPRING in the right hole. Both the selector detent and rear takedown pin detent are under the grip on the 15-22, and the springs are not the same length, IIRC.

                    15-22

It's obvious I don't know what I am doing since I still can't get it to work so I'm off to Sacramento Black Rifle in the morning. Thanks for the replies.

Here's a video on how to install a pistol grip

Brownells has been serving hunters, shooters, and first responders since 1939 and is one of the most trusted suppliers and manufacturers in the World.

                        15-22

I took it to Sacramento Black Rifle and they fixed it free of charge and I also bought a new grip for it since the CAA had a gap on top. This is a great shop, well stocked and very helpful. Thanks for all the replies

What was it? Were the two springs swapped around?
