    i was bored so...

...i went out to see how reliable and accurate the CCI Blazers were, in order to do so i also picked up a few rounds of CCI Mini Mags (the pinnacle) and Remington Thunderbolts (another cheap bulk ammo) to chalk up some comparisons

im not that technical of a guy so i kept it simple, loaded both my ruger 10/22 that only upgrade consist of an aftermarket AA deluxe target stock and a simmons 22 mag scope
    and
my sig 522 classic factory stock, BDM mags and cheap TASCO red dot scope

targets are 50ft slow fire NRA pistol targets set at approx 45ft, no bench rest, i simple rested my left elbow on the counter the rest is off hand

    522/CCI-MM/45ft/40rds

    522/Rem-Tb/45ft/40rds

    522/CCI-BZ/45ft/40rds

on the above test there were no malfunctions of any kind...all ran and fired

    10-22/CCI-BZ/45ft/30rds

    10-22/Rem-Tb/45ft/30rds

    10-22/CCI-MM/45ft/30rds

on this test the Blazers ran flawlessly, the Mini Mags had 1 FTF (the cartridge bent as it was going up the feed ramp), and one misfire from the Rem. Thunderbolts

in conclusion, the Mini Mags is still top notch as far as quality 22lr ammo is concerned and that the CCI Blazers are damn near perfect, esp for its price point...it still remains my favorite bulk load, although i though i would be disappointed at the "lower" quality thunderbolts, i was still quite happy with its performance, esp for plinking purposes, any of these will do the job one just better than others

    thanks for looking

^yea, it actually came about to see how the cheap bulk CCI Blazers would run against the top quality otc ammo (mini mags) and another cheap bulk (thunderbolt) ammo would match up...and i must say im pretty pleased with the results

everytime the BLAZERS go on sale ill be sure to pick up a few boxes here and there

i will also add other OTC rimfire ammo to the list as i go on and on, i just picked up a box of CCI Stingers and i will do some reporting once i get the chance to shoot em up

Great range review with ammo and rifles. Like you I have both rifles and Simmons scope. I put a Simmons scope on my 522 also. Cheap-o red dot I had would cover up my target @ 50ft. I use the 500 bulk pack blazers, having some issues with the 525 pack. I love how the sig 522 eats anything.

          nice writeup and nice shooting

I use either CCI Blazer bulk or Federal bulk and pretty much nothing else. Cycles really well and haven't had a misfire over the last several thousand rounds. Good stuff, especially at its price point.

i was debating on putting an actual scope on it, but decided against it as i want to have different platform to gauge different tests etc. i bet that 522 is super accurate when paired up with a real scope

true, i did feed the ammo to 2 of the most reliable .22 platforms out on the market right now...i wanted to actually test their accuracy more so than reliability, but whats a range report with out either values...so here they are

gonna also pick up some Win X, 333/555, and wildcats to test as well

              stay tuned

btw: heres a group shot thru my HP22A aka my burnah

Thanks for the range report. I bought 4 boxes of Blazer last time Turner's had a sale and I am glad I did now.

Thanks for the report because I was thinking of picking up some Blazer. I was not impress with the accuracy of Federal and Winchester bulk pack. Next time I will try some Federal Auto Match and Blazer to see which bulk ammo would give me the best accuracy for the lowest price.

                            update 6/30/11
Remington 597 45ft 30rds CCI Mini Mags $7 Tasco Scope

Sig 522 Federal Lightning 40ft 40rds Tasco Red Dot

Sig 522 Rem TB 40ft 40rds Tasco Red Dot

today i got to experience first hand that the "shooter" does play a big role even in semi-controlled tests, i found the trigger pull on the Rem 597 to be on the "heavy" side hence my poor shot placement and groupings
also, with the Sig, shooting a red dot 1x scope proved to be quite challenging, and with the REM TB i took more time to get the shots to get tighter and towards the middle of the target

with the SIG, all fed perfect, no issues

with the remington, having new mags, if i fill it with 8 or more rounds the rifle will have FTF, a couple of misfires and thats about it

any questions, comments or test request please feel free to let me know

i didnt have a chance to shoot the STINGERS cus i wasnt able to get more ammo, didnt have enough time..will set that up for the next shoot!

I applaud your efforts in this testing. However I don't believe you will see much difference in ammo at a range of 45 ft. For a true test move out to 50 yds where all that ammo will transition from supersonic to subsonic and see the difference in accuracy then. Best to shoot 5 shot groups to determine which ammo has more fliers. There are targets for free download that have up to six 1/2" bulls or squares or diamonds that work good for this type of test.

Shoot then measure the largest spread from center to center of the holes and that will give you a good basis to evaluate the accuracy of a given ammo. Good luck.
