Remington 522 Viper - Trigger barely works

Hello, I am a new member and was wondering if anyone here had any ideas on what's wrong with my rifle other than being a poorly made product.

I don't know how old it is (was a hand-me-down from dad), or what kind of maintenance was done on it. I used it as a kid for a while, but never really cleaned it thoroughly, and it got put into a safe for about 10 years. I remember it firing fine, although still remember it having a heavy trigger pull.

Anyway, now I'm picking it up again, and after a hasty lube job, I took it to the range and I notice the trigger seems really awkward. Sometimes, it will fire without a problem, but sometimes, I will pull the trigger and nothing will happen. I will have to pull and hold the trigger for a very long time to get the thing to fire.

Thinking it was simply corroded with carbon buildup, I took the entire thing apart and cleaned out each individual piece that could be removed. It seems incredibly cheaply designed and within are many plastic parts.

Anyway, after a (seemingly) thorough cleaning job, and reassembly, it appears that i have the same problem. It sometimes will fire properly (and by properly I mean relatively instantly once I've defeated the 100 lb trigger pull), and sometimes it will have that long delay where I will have to hold
the trigger until it fires. Kept disassembling and cleaning and reassembling with the same results.

Any thoughts? Should I try to keep fixing this thing? Or just junk it?

Should I get a 10/22 and tacticool it up instead?

    Thanks.

If you do end up junking it I'll buy the magazine(s) from you , assuming they are the metal bodied ones and there isn't anything wrong with them.

I'd be looking for burrs on the firing pin and the sear. Has the rifle been dry fired? It could of mushroomed the end of the firing pin and created problems.

I have 4 mags, but unfortunately they are all plastic.

              100 pound trigger pull....
              LOL!

Other than nostalgia, I'd park it and get something that shoots.
I hate plastic spastic parts in anything.
If valuable enough to you (weighing in nostalgia) get a hold of a gunsmith for an evaluation to make it work again.
While there, buy a replacement (of your choice) so the waiting period is shortened.

BTW, Welcome from another new member.
