New (used) Mark II Target SS

Here is my Ruger Mark II Target (bull barrel). I believe it was originally purchased in 1980. She came with the original box and magazines, although the manual is missing. A few scratches under the barrel and one or two on the rear sight; otherwise she is perfect. The gun shoots very, very well. I broke her down and cleaned her last evening. If nothing else, I proved that once you master the Mark takedown process it is no problem. She disassembled and reassembled without mishap.

That's a fine specimen and my favorite configuration. Mark IIs weren't shipped till 1982. Yours looks to be a 215- prefix, which would put it in the 1990 range. Ruger will send you a manual for free if you call them. Glad you mastered the takedown process. The complexity is really overrated.

Good information, everyone. I will be sure and download the manual. Cool looking old vintage Ruger box, don't you think? Has the old "SR" logo. As I said, she shoots like a dream, and inside and out in superb condition without a trace of corrosion or degradation. A nice cleaning and very light lubing and she is ready for a range session tonight.

You are quite right that the takedown process is far less difficult than some would have us think. Just make sure the hammer is down all the way before re-inserting the mainspring (I use a Q-Tip to push it all the way over) and then point the barrel in the air while re-inserting the spring to move the hammer strut into proper position. Once there is tension on the mainspring as you complete closing it you are good to go. Sometimes a tap on the barrel with a rubber mallet will help move the hammer strut once inverting the barrel.

          A wonderful and fun pistol!

That is the first pistol I ever bought and I still have it and it's just as much fun now as it was when I first got it. I have since purchased 3 more of the blued version with the same barrel configuration along with one of the 6' tapered barrel versions. Fun to have my 2 sons and a couple of their friends all lined up shooting them at the same time! Love them MKIIs.
