Wrong. The only good coyote is a dead coyote. We killed one with a 22lr a couple years ago. Fatal shot the first round.
MiniMags in a HP flavor are a great choice. They are a little more expensive but you need something fast that will open up. MiniMags get it done.Comment

You know, a well placed shot with a .22 might kill an elephant, but that doesn't mean you should do it.
Besides, wouldn't you rather shoot a real gun anyways?

When I was a kid, in Missouri, there was a bounty on wolves and coyotes. I killed my first wolf with a .22 LR, while it was running. I think the bounty on wolves was $15.00. I bought a Weaver scope and and made one shot kills with a .22.
When you only have one gun available, you practice and get good at using it.Comment

If you are going to hunt then use the appropriate firearms.
.22LR is not appropriate for coyotes; the chance of a non-fatal maiming is far too high. Of course it is possible to kill one with a .22LR; that isnt the point at all.
There is no argument here; its simply not the right way to do it.Comment

Rimfires are not leagle in California for yotes.
I did shoot one with my 10/22 a long time ago in Utah. Yes it was a kill shot, one in the heart lung area, and when he turned his head to see what hit him the next two hit him in the side of the brain D.R.T.

+1. Hunting is fine, but we all have a moral obligation to minimize the pain or agony to our prey. You can kill a human with a .22 but very few firearm experts would recommend a .22 as one's home defense/self-defense weapon. Same argument here -- sure you may be able to kill a coyote cleanly with a .22. But there are other weapons that greatly increase the chance of such a clean, painless kill.If you are going to hunt then use the appropriate firearms.
