    Ammo question

sorry for noob question . im planing on purchase savage 22LR bolt rifle soon .

I remember seeing some bulk round of federal and remington ar walmart .

so I've doing some homework on 22LR ammo and i came across on this

    i thought 22LR stands for 22LONG ..

22long and 22LR seems to have same size case , so does that mean , i can still shoot 22long on 22LR rifle ?

You CAN shoot .22 short and .22 long out of a .22LR rifle. However, you will start running into problems when you have a semi-auto and magazines.

.22 Short, long, LR, CB shorts will all fire in .22lr. Some may not cycle or getting them in or out of the .22lr can be a pain. But they will go bang.

Best to look on the barrel, it will say what can be shot in the rifle. If it says 22lr then don't shoot 22 short or 22 long in it as it will foul the chamber and than when trying to shoot 22lr you will have problems loading and ejecting even with a bolt action. There's a reason they stamp the barrel with what can be shot in any given rifle.

Bulk ammo is great for plinking at soda cans and golf balls but if you want some serious accuracy from that rifle you may want to get a box of Wolf Match Target to see what she can really do. My Savage BTVS loves the Wolf as does three other 22 rifles that I own.

+1 on the Wolf Match Target. 22's are notoriously picky about ammo, but I have yet to hear of someone who didnt get good or excellent results with Wolf MT.
