    GSG-5SD

Looking to purchase a used GSG from the market place. Most the ones for sale are not the SD version, which is really what I want.

So, how hard and pricey is it to change the fake can and foregrip to the SD version? Where do they sell em?

    Thanks!

I have a carbine/non SD version and rrages.com has a ton of handguards to choose from so IMO go with the carbine and adjust it to whatever you want.

You should be able to pick up a SD model for about $400. As far as the can goes, there is only 1 size. The bigger can is a no no. They recalled it. I liked the bigger one too. Just speaking as the owner of a SD.

Not sure what you're talking about. When they recalled the first gen SD cans, they replaced them with a can that had similar exterior dimensions. I believe the issue for the ATF was the interior dimensions.

The new, post recall can looks the same. The difference is the new can has a sleeve that goes around the barrel (full length) as oppsed to the old can that didn't. think of it as a real long "doughnut" shape.

mine is a post recall that has the standard size barrel shroud, not the fat one. Can you buy a fat shroud?

Yes. See my link above. Jim if yours is not a SD model, then it was not subject to recall. These kits are post recall. The reason why it happened was that the Feds found that some were drilling small ports in the barrel and putting fake can back on creating an actual suppressed weapon. With the additional sleeve on the post recall cans, it prevents gasses from entering the can chamber and making a suppressed weapon.

The SD is the one with the big can. recal or not. Its the same size.
                    Large can, fat forearm.

                    Before and after recal.

Basic GSG 5. Not subject to recall. Thinner can, slanted forearm.
If you have a Pre-Recall SD, you can try to call ATI see if they will still replace it. If not, you can ask to buy just the can or youll need to get the kit.

Did you buy yours from a dealer? If so what forearm dose it have? I don't have my GSG5 with me so I can't measure it. Dose it look like the top pic.or bottom pic above?

A dealer ordered it for me. It has the SD forearm, but my can looks smaller.
