    Remington 597ss or Marlin 60ss?

The title pretty much sums up my dilema...
I am in the market for a nice Stainless .22lr
I'm looking to spend less than $300 and get a good out of the box shooter.
The remington 597 seems to be the most accurate in my price range, although i havent shot a newer marlin 60 just my dads from back in the day.
I love the looks and the heritage of the Marlin 60, its timeless!
but it is tube fed and havent heard much about new model 60 rifles.

Lets hear some feedback and personal experiences with the rifles, anybody have amazing or horrible thing to say about either one? pros/cons?

And i am NOT in the market for a flaming chicken 10/22, its like buying an old project car when you can buy a new sports car for the same price...

If you want the "timeless" lines of the Model 60 but with a magazine try looking at the Marlin SS 795. the only difference is the Model 60 is tube mag and the 795 has removeable 10 shot mags. I think that you will discover that the Marlin's will be the most accurate semi-auto out of the box due to their micro-groove barrel. They love 40 gr std velocity and will also do well with high velocity.( Federal load 510 aka Lightning, CCI Blazer, CCI standard velocity etc.) If you really want to impress your friends get a box of Wolf MT and start shooting cloverleaf groups. Just make sure you get yourself lots of mags because the 795 is one fun accurate gun to shoot!

795 is an excellent sub for a 60. I still prefer the 60, mine's blue, they're way more accurate than any stock 10-22 out of the box. My 60 is nearly as tight as my Marlin 39A, which is saying something.

The Remington is a good, functional and accurate gun. It may set you back a few more $$$ than a comparable Marlin, but likely you won't get a better gun.

Yeah I shot a newer 597 and was really impressed with the feel and function not to mention accuracy. I just wish I heard more on the newer microgrooved marlin 60 if it feels anything like the older models I'm a fan.
I don't care too much for the mag sticking down on the 795 that's why I am more interested in the 60 and you can buy speed loaders to make reloading a snap.
Anybody have a new model 60 and what's the verdict?
Thanks for all the info and response thus far!!
          I appreciate it.
