Question about the S&W MP 15/22

I've heard when they first came out that there was a problem with the ejector, was wondering if anyone has purchased one recently and if S&W has fixed the problem?

Also any other observations about the 15/22 would be great.

    Thank you in advance!

your right, they had that trouble. Cool thing is that S&W warranty is for life so any problems, you send it back for free. The one's on the shelf you shouldnt have those problems. I dont shoot that often now cause of money but I should be around 1300 rnds with no gun problems, only ammo related. Look for blue springs inside the gun, then youll know it's updated. People would also tweak the ejector bck then when it was a common prob.

Any M&P 15-22 in the store in the past 12-18 months or so should be updated.

M&P is the better rifle, compared to the Colt. 7075-T6 beats the polymer, yeah, but polymer beats pot metal every time. The receivers don't snap in half when they fall over on the carpet. Also, the FCG parts are milspec in the M&P - you can replace them with your favorite LPK, with a couple minor exceptions. And all the controls are actually functional, and work right.

Plus it's a solid steel barrel rather than a sleeve inside a shroud made to look like an M4 barrel.

make sure your loading the magazine correctly, my early misfeeds where due to bad loading
          I mainly shoot .22lr, 9mm,45 acp, 357 & 38, 12G, 7.62x39, .308, .223/556, 7.62x54r, 300 win mag, 8x57

The new version I picked up a few months ago has been the best money I've ever spent. Shoots everything without a hiccup. Over 3000k through it wit mini mags, blazer as well as federal bulk. Down side is RRAGES.com has been tempting me to keep buying accessories for it.

Just got back from shooting mine right now. It's accurate and just plain good fun. Eats anything. As was said blue springs are the fix, but be careful when getting strong cleaners by them (like walmart Winchester gun cleaner spray). The paint/coating will come off, don't ask me how I know this.

Not all ammo is good in the 15/22.

Through our testing, Smith & Wesson has found that there are several brands and types of .22LR ammunition that do not perform consistently or reliably. Consequently, Smith & Wesson DOES NOT RECOMMEND that the following brands or types of .22LR ammunition be used in your M&P 15-22.

                  Remington Golden Bullet
                  Remington Target 22
                  Remington Thunderbolt
                  Winchester Wildcat
Any and all sub-sonic brands and types.

Also if you have the Performance Center Model it is equipped with a .22LR Lanley semi-auto match chamber which does not accommodate CCI Stinger brand ammunition. WARNING: Never use CCI .22LR Stinger brand ammunition in your M&P 15-22 Performance Center Model Rifle.

Based on the design and action of the M&P 15-22, Smith & Wesson recommends that you use the following brands and types of .22LR ammunition for optimal performance in your M&P 15-22 rifle.

                  CCI Standard Velocity
                  CCI Mini-Mag
                  Aguila Super Extra Std. Velocity
                  Aguila Super Extra High Velocity
                  Federal American Eagle
                  Federal GameShock
                  Winchester Super-X High Velocity

                  - S&W 15/22 Owners Manual

Supposedly some people have had issues and others haven't. I have only used CCI Mini-Mags and Federal bulk (from Wally Mart) with no FTEs or FTFs. I've had my 15/22 just over a year now. I would personally just steer clear of what S&W warns against, but go ahead and try it, maybe it'll be fine. You just don't want to end up with a large amount of ammo that jams every second rnd.

One of the main reasons I picked the 15/22 over the "Colt" was b/c it has a functional bolt catch whereas the "Colt" is useless, just for show, non functional. I was disappointed that the mags were/are proprietary with the 15/22, but mine work flawlessly. The stock irons that come with the 15/22 are accurate, just spend a little time spent on zeroing them in.

I use Rem Oil from Wally Mart and have never had an issue with the coatings coming off... that's odd, unless you are referring to the Colt, temekuguy?

"If the American people ever allow private banks to control the issue of their currency, first by inflation, then by deflation, the banks & corporations that will grow up around them will deprive the people of all property until their children wake up homeless on the continent their Fathers conquered. The issuing power should be taken from the banks and restored to the people, to whom it properly belongs."
