sig522 question

hey guys just recently bought a sig 522. feels great but have not shot it yet. ive been researching online and cant seem to find the answer to the question.
changed out the butt stock and put in the extension and a spring popped out. question is what is the spring for and where is it suppose to go? thanks

That spring goes into into the lower chamber of buttstock when you install/pull off extension.. A round chamber. It provides spring pressure for a button that allows you to take off the butt stock assembly from the "buffer tube" for lack of better term.
