Winchester Model 75 .22

Recently I traded my brother my piano (I don't know how to play the damned thing) for a Winchester Model 75 in .22, mfg date of 1942. It is the target version as it has the 28" barrel v. the sport version with the 24" barrel. This thing was a tack driver back when we were kids.

I have pined for this firearm for twenty plus years and offered him money each time he asked what it was worth...finally he offered it to me and asked for the piano instead of cash (thank god).

All this being said, I am seeking a bit of assistance with identifying the sight...I recall the sight being a Lyman Peep Sight...and it indeed looks like their 90 MJT Target Reciever Sight, but much older.

Is anyone able to affirm this for me? And if so, do you have any advice that may be useful in sighting it in for a now adult?

I apprecieate any assistance / advice.

Pretty sure your sight is a Winchester 84 rear extension sight. I believe the early Winshesters had them. Mine has a Redfield 75.

I have a 1941 Winchester 75 and use a Redfield Olympic rear peep and globe front sight - the rear has a Merit adjustable aperture with a large eye disk and I use a round front sight insert.

With respect to sighting in and the sight picture, what you want is the black circle of the front sight centered in the rear aperture and the bullseye centered in the aperture of the front sight - basically, a black dot within a circle within a circle. Leave a little daylight around each circle. The trick is to keep each of these perfectly centered.

Thank you gentlemen for the responses! I'll look up both sights and see what I can find on them.

I get the desired sight picture...mostly what I am looking at is thus:

1. The rear sight is on an adjustable shaft...I'll need to push that forward as I have too much light in btween the two circles
2. Then what? LOL I'm pretty sure it is a 1/4 moa...I know what to do with that. but after I push that sight all the way forward, just start shooting at paper until I see something?
3. I'm good with sighting open sights, scopes (who isn't) and did my M4 / AR15 build and have adjusted plenty of M16's so I am an expert in the Army and have done M14's for expert in the Navy. Do I treat it the same? Is there a special consideration.
   Whence I move it forward will it put the rounds on target low or high?

Does the front sight allow you to switch out the insert? If so there are inserts of varying sight sizes that will give more or less "white" around the insert. Moving the rear disc fore & aft a bit will help with focus, just a matter of what's comfortable for you.

Additional rear sight discs are cheap ($8.00 or so each) and you can buy adjustable ones from Merit or find a used Parker Hale too.

Thank you for all the information! I have adjusted the rear sight forward. The front sight does have interchangeable inserts adn I can replace the rear disc.
