I just purchased 22lr ammo at Walmart only 8 hours ago and did not get that question. Then again I am well over 21 so that may be part of it! lol

I always say, "rifle". I'm sure if I said "handgun", they would ask for ID. I assume it is due to company policy/register prompts and don't lose any sleep over it.

The only things I buy at Wal Mart are ammo and motor oil.

What did AB962 have to do with the Federal Gun Control Act of 1968? There has been a law on the books for 43 years now. It actually affects every ammo sale in the country. .22lr is the most common caliber that is shot in both long guns and handguns. So, WM's computer system is automated to ask this about every .22lr ammo sale.

I get the same question at one of the walmarts I go to, and the other one the employees are not as blind and can see I'm in my 50's. It's not a big deal, it's just the register prompts. I was asked the other day at a hardware store to show id to purchase spray paint and obviously I'm over 18. A gas station by my house use to have the registers prompt for birth date on tabacco purchases. The regular employees just punch in a date over 18 the new ones actually ask for my id. No big deal

Again, 962 is and was totally irrellevent in this case. This has been FEDERAL law since 1968. Please, don't look ignorant by not understanding that this is a 43 year old law. Instead, you and several others need to educate yourselves on all aplicable gun laws.

AB962 had nothing to do with the 21 year old requirement to purchase handgun ammo.
