10+ year old unfired Ruger 1022

Hey all,

I have a Ruger Volquartsen 1022 sitting in my safe for a very long time. Anything I should do before taking it to shoot? No rust that I can see. Oil it? Any suggestions on type of ammo? Been on the centerfire forum for quite a while, I think this my first time here.

Field strip, clean and properly lubricate it. Take a selection of different brands of ammo with you as rimfires can be ammo picky. Just because someone says that "Brand X" works in their rifle doesn't mean it'll work well in yours, and vice versa. Find the one (or ones) that work best in your rifle and stick with them. Don't pay too much attention to the "Brand X ammo is garbage" threads you'll find here.

10/22's are pretty whorey with ammo lol. But ya listen to grumpyoldtiredcop. Thats solid advice

Clean and oil it and it should be gtg.
Try different brands of ammo like Grumpyoldretiredcop said.
some rimfire rifles tend to like different ammo than others.

Pretty much what ^they^ all said. Make sure It's in working order, lube it up and shoot it.

Do a proper break in on it first

Good degrease.....10 yrs sitting around....the oil that was there is probly
turned into GLUE

followed with proper oiling

Is there a link for tyhe breakdown and types of ammo? I have a Volq carbon fiber barrel, soits not just a plain jane Ruger. I'll post pics asap.

I get teary eyed everytime I see it . No need to oil her? Just go out and shoot her?

As has already been said, any lube currently in the rifle may have congealed to a consistency more like glue than oil. Field strip, clean and properly lube it first or be prepared to live with disappointment when it doesn't function correctly - or at all.
