    .17 HM2

I'm I the only person still doggedly holding on to their .17HM2 rifle?

I converted a 10/22 about 5 or 6 years ago and it's a bloody tack driver at 100 yards. Unfortunately, the cartridge turned out to be the beta-max/Video CD while the .17 HMR turned out to be the VHS/DVD platform.

I have so much invested in this, I don't really want to get rid of it or convert back to .22LR.
Is anyone else holding on to theirs? And if so, where the heck are you finding reasonbly priced ammo?

I've still got my Marlin 717....

Ammo to Go has Eley for $50/500. Not too bad considering. http://www.ammunitiontogo.com/produc...17gr-vmax-ammo

I stocked up from midsouth way back when. I think I still have over 3k rounds.

Yeah, I have around 2,400 rounds left, but always looking for sales.
My .17HM2 doesn't like Eley as much as the Remington (out of production), Federal (out of production) or Hornady (barely still in production), but beggars can't be choosers, right?

Didn't it all used to be the same stuff, just relabled?

I don't think so... The smell between the Rem/Fed/Hornady are all different. The Rem MAY have been Eley, but I'm not sure.
Maybe I just got a bad batch of Eley?

Now you have me reading up over in the ammo forum on RFC. Seems there have been a lot of case neck issues with the Mach II. As for the ammo, I seem to recall all the early ammo was made by Hornaday, and just relabled under the various names, including CCI and Federal, but that was prior to Eley having the ammo as well. However, the Remington Mach II was made by Eley. The Remington label was discontinued and it lives on as Eley.

Still holding on to my HM2 with 14,000rds of Eley ammo, bought it on sale for $2.67 a box 4 years ago

hm2 is just a barrel swap and maing spring(?) away? that the case heck ya when I free up some dough I'll be getting a kit for the 10 22. anytime you get a new shooting experience without DROs, waiting period and all that nonsense is gold. alot of people bought 10 22s lately, i expect .17hm2 to do very well. just give us time to get the funds

I think the little 17 is a goner. CZ has put out their rimfire convertible bolt gun, switches from 22 lr to 22 Mag & big 17, but not the Mach 2.

what about the 10 22s, so little needs converting to get an hm2 in semi.

There have been a lot of troubles with conversions if you read up over at Rimfire Central.
That being said, I have had minimal issues with my conversion (mainly with the magazines, but once I went to Ruger only mags, that went away for 99% of the time).

You'll need a barrel and new bolt assembly for sure. Some people recommend changing the firing pin as well.

Here's all I did to mine with 2004 prices :

                        BASE GUN
                        Ruger 10/22 $169
                        BARREL
                        Aluma-Lite $145
                        STOCK
                        B&C Anschutz $175
                        BOLT ASSEMBLY
                        Power Custom $50
                        TRIGGER ASSEMBLY
                        Volquartsen TG2000 $169
