So I know the gsg 1911 has been discussed numerous times. But here's my situation. My friend from Arizona is moving to California. He said he is bringing one in and may want to sell it. I asked him if the barrel is threaded and if it has the mag disconnect. He said the barrel isn't threaded and it does have a mag disconnect. Am I ok if I decided to do a ppt for it once he becomes a resident of California?

Have you checked with Valkyrie Arms to see if they're doing the GSG? -
Valkyrie Arms doesn't have necessary parts to do this.... well they didn't have it a month ago when I did bought my GSG, so parts had to be custom made (I still have the extended barrel and blocked mag to use for another GSG single-shot conversion
).
All GSG 1911's come with a threaded barrel, so to make it CA-legal it would have to be permanently attached to the barrel (pinned, soldered, welded, loctite, etc). In order for your friend to do a PPT sale to you without any hassles, he would first need to make his GSG CA-legal (taking care of the threaded barrel), and then become a CA resident. For a PPT, the mag disconnect doesn't matter (good thing to because they're more of a nuisance on the GSG, but easy to remove). Once he's a resident, then you can do a normal PPT with him as if you were to do one with me for my GSG.Comment

Post a picture of it. What you're probably seeing is the cap on the barrel so it looks like a regular barrel. But all GSG 1911's come with a threaded barrel, whether you get the 'normal' version or the 'tactical' version that comes with the fake can.
Here's what the barrel looks like with the cap off, and the cap on. You need to permanently affix this cap the barrel to make it legal in CA.

you could take the time to figure out if there is a comp or something you like and affix that permanently also. Why not just stick w/ a 1911 conversion (other than price, but if you are so in love w/ the 1911 ergonomics, you probably already own a 1911, otherwise why not get a better .22lr handgun like a ruger/buckmark or SW41).NRA Lifetime Member

I actually had the chance to check it out in person and DaveFJ80 you are right. The cap did come off with a wrench
@kenshinoro I've had 22 conversions for my 1911's. While fun, I just hated switching slides. I know I sound lazy. The thought of having a dedicated 22 1911 just sounded much easier. I've been eyeing the buckmark for sometime now so that may be in my stable soon

I'd much prefer a dedicated 1911 22 as well, but this is looking like a tough gig to accomplish. Buds sold a Chiappia through their online auction 2 days ago for for like $240....makes buying a kit and learning to change it out kind of frivolous .... Except for stupid gun lawsComment
