    Range Report/Review Walther TPH

And here it is! The Walther TPH, blued and made in Germany. I'm making this thread because finding any pictures or information in a TPH is quite hard and there isn't a single video on a German original so I'm thinking of making one in the future.

    While holding it: http://i464.photobucket.com/albums/r...n/IMG_0122.jpg

It has only been a couple days since I went to the range and had a phenomenal time shooting both this pistol and several others. And wow is this little pocket pistol fantastic. From the 15 yard, I think, pistol range I was shooting dead center within the circle on a target similar to this one http://www.diligenceguards.com/images/target_2.gif

Even though its only firing a .22lr the recoil really did surprise me at what a .22lr could do. I had gone shooting in the past with the Walther but had some serious problems with ammo, this is one picky pistol. Remington Thunderbolt was too inconsistent and had many fail to fires, maybe because the ammo was not sensitive enough because it ran through my 10/22 just fine. And then I tried federal's brand of cheapo .22lr, but I still had issues; this time with failures to eject and from what I read it's because these rounds are underpowered. I had enough frustration with bad ammo and decided to go out and buy some CCI mini mags. Best purchase ever.

I had ran through 50 mini mags with zero issues on the final time I went to the range. This was when I could really test the accuracy I was talking about before. It felt great knowing that this old pistol still had it and that it was just poor ammo before, not the pistol.

    Now for the Review:
    Specs (measurements I took myself)
-Weight: 11.47 ounces empty with magazine unloaded
-Width: .94" at handle and .68" on slide
    -Height: 3.55"
    -Length: 5.36"
    -Barrel: 2.75"
    -Capacity: 6+1 .22lr
-Double/Single action with a safety that de-cocks and blocks the hammer
    -No slide lock

The gun itself fits very nicely in my hand except for my last finger which I'm not to sure where to place, it just kind of does its own thing and it feels very light for being a full metal (the only plastic is on the grips and end of magazine) pistol. I'm very impressed that with it's size and small barrel that it is very accurate.

Final thoughts: This is a great pocket pistol that is incredible easy to conceal, incredible accurate, and is plenty reliable with the right ammo. Though lacking on fire power since it only fires .22lr, it's still a great pistol with a lot of mystique around it (for me at least) because there is not a single video on it.

    Nice Report

I have one of the stainless TPH's (US made) and it is great---so long as you are shooting CCI Stingers. Any other ammo has reliability problems. Fortunately Stingers rank among the better rounds out of the 22. It is my wife's favorite pistol to shoot, and she is very accurate despite its diminutive size.

I've heard that there were some quality control problems/reliability problems with the American made ones, but you don't seem to have that problem?

It would be cool to see if I could buy a US made magazine and run it through the German made one because I doubt I'll find any others available.

        US TPH Quality

I've read the same info too, about US made TPH's being inferior. My wife and I purchased this pistol on an impulse, as we saw it at a gun store, she thought it looked cute, she held it an liked it, and we decided to buy it for that reason alone. It's turned out great, because now she likes to go to the range with me and shoot "her gun."
Only after we made the purchase did I read up on the US made guns and see the mixed reviews.
my prior knowledge of TPH's was in the early 80's I was a young adult and the German pistols were totally unobtainable. Back then my buddy got a 22 caliber PP, and that was a fun shooter. I should renew that old friendship and we can shoot our Walther 22's side by side

Well its great that your wife has something she can enjoy shooting at the range with you. It's great that you managed to get a nice, working U.S made one.

so cool. If they could extend the barrel to ~5" taper the slide to match and keep everything else proportional would be a dream.
