So I've been wondering what the main differences between 22 long and 22lr are. From what I've read 22 long is a 22lr case loaded with a 22 short bullet. But I'm wondering if they are different other than that. Also what would be the advantages and disadvantages of both rounds? Thanks

22 long vs 22lr

22L and 22lr use the same case. 22lr has a heavier projectile and more powder. 22l is generally out of production. The thing with firearms is that they are not like any other consumer product, simple ownership of one carries a lot of responsibility.
Some idiots are too busy knowing it all to ever learn anything

I may not see 22 Long for sale very often, but CCI still lists two loadings as in production. For those of us that use .22s with tubular magazines that can handle shorts, longs, and LRs the longs may give a bit more capacity than LR rounds. I also use the shorts and longs in my .22 revolvers. There was a time when the shorts and longs were cheaper than .22 LR rounds, and if they were up to the job at hand then why not save some money. It seems that now the cost is about the same at least here in southern California.Comment
