    Reccomendation

I am looking to buy a .22 pistol. I thought i'd see what you folks had to say as far as what best rimfire around for the $. My budget would be a max of $400.

    Thank for the help.

    Striper,

I have a Ruger 22/45 Mark II with a 5.5" stainless barrel, which I really enjoy shooting. Most people here will tell you that you can't go wrong with a Ruger or a Browning Buckmark. There are also a lot of fans of the smaller Walther p22. Depending on configuration, the Rugers and Walthers go for around $300, the Brownings are usually in the $400 price range.

Search the rimfire forum for "best .22 pistol" and you will get lots of information that should help you narrow it down.

I forgot to mention that it really helps to go to a gun shop that has a good selection and handle as many .22s as they have. This will give you a good idea of what feels right for you. A pistol that feels right in my hand might not feel comfortable to you. It's also a good idea to go to a range that rents pistols and fire a few different models before you buy - if possible.

          Ruger is you best be.
Buckmark would also be a good one.

I agree with MrMarco about handling each gun. From some suggestions, I was sure I was going to prefer and get a Ruger 22/45. Then after handling and shooting a few different models I purchased a Ruger Mark III Target Model 5.5.

It is sitting in 10-day jail right now, and I can't wait to feed it tons of ammo.

I recommend Ruger as a brand but certain people may not like the feel of certain models I have a Ruger BearCat and a Ruger Single Action six shooter.

Another + for Ruger. But you should go to a place like Turners or Ammo Brothers and just handle as many as they got. The Ruger MKIII are much heavier than they look. Where as the Walther is much smaller and lighter they they first appear.

Also look into the Sig Mosquito, that is in the $325 range new and they often come up for sale used in the $250 range. S&W 22A is a pretty decent one in the $300 range (there are a couple in the classified now for $200).

Is it Heritage Arms that also makes a decent convertible revolver---i.e. .22lr & .22wmr in one?....

1911 .22 standard kits are fun if you already own a .45 w/ decent accuracy. S&W 22S is a great pistol and is made w/ S&W quality fit/finish, a little picky on .22 ammo (jams in the mag) and have great accuracy. Ruger MK II/III etc are built a little rough as far as the fitted finished parts, have great accuracy and eat about anything you feed it. Hammerli/SIg TrailSide is built with excellent quality fit/finish, extremely accurate, eats any type of ammo, but no longer allowed new in CA IIRC. All can be had for 250-400 and you can pretty much shoot the poop out of them before a cleaning is needed. Although the Sig/Hammerli will be the first to give up, but the rest will very soon follow.

Browning Buckmark or a Ruger mk I,II or III for a close second.

Turners is selling the Ruger 22/45 Bull Barrel for $269.
Would this gun be worth the $? How 's the quality/reliability of the 22/45?

I own a ruger mark III and it's my favorite gun. The gun is crazy accurate, I can call the placement before the shot. I can't do that with any other gun and it eats everything!

I just received a custom made leather lefty holster for it from tripleK and I love it even more now.
