    Bolt Action .22

I'm thinking about a new bolt action .22 I was looking at the Savage Mark II FV w/bull barrel. I'm kinda tired of my 10/22 constantly stovepiping on me. I've tried different ammo, changed/tuned the extractor and still get one almost every magazine. I've heard that the Savage is pretty darn accurate for the money. Also looked at CZ 455 American, but pricey. Any suggestions?

Ruger still makes the 77/22 right? I have a 20 year old going strong and really enjoy it; sorry to hear your 10/22 isn't going right. I'm luck in that one too I guess....I've been shooting the 77/22, 10/22 and MkII all together for almost 20 years now.

Pound for pound, dollar for dollar, the Savage MK II series is one of the best out of the box shooters to be had. Here is a post from rimfirecentral from a match director attesting to that

I'm partial to the older 22's like the Remington 513, Mossberg 44, etc. But I shot next to a guy with one of the Savage TR's a week or so ago. I'm fairly certain it is the same barrel and action as the FV and it was shooting very well. My only gripe about the savage rimfires is the magazine release just doesn't feel right to my fingers trying to pull the mags. Maybe its the angle the tab is at but I feel like I have to work at it more than others of similar design.

Great little tactical .22 bolt, accurate, fun and bull barrel.

Love my Marlin 925. Accurate, cheap, reliable. The Savages are very well regarded, too. Can't go wrong with either. The CZ is a real beauty. I felt one up at my LGS and was very impressed. It really is a fine, fine rifle.

Has anyone tried the Kimber Model 82 from the CMP? Looks nice $622.95 shipped. Ouch! I heard they are very accurate.

                Kimber Rifles

They have always seemed "very premium" to me and for that price they are just above the "rest." I've never shot one but seen a few and the owners are always quite happy with their expensive toys. Even the 77/22 I mentioned (which I had to go look up) is now pricey at over $550. Looks like the little Savage is the current winner.

Oh...someone had a fairly original Winchester Model 52 in the market place the last few days - in fact I thought it was under $600. It was tapped for a scope but nothing else modified on it that I could see. That'd be a nice piece too.

Don't give up on the 10/22. A fix could be as easy as a new extractor; a $10.00 part. Lots of information here:

I've got a Marlin 981TS that I love. Extremely accurate, nice finish, and a great feel. Decent sights if you want to shoot with Irons. If you want to go scoped, it has a grooved receiver and is also drilled and tapped. Less than 300, and it doesn't feel like a toy. Tubular mag, so no worries about having enough magazines on hand, and it will hold 17 rds of .22LR, or up to 25 rounds of .22shorts.

At 25 yards, on a rest, it will put 17 cheap federal bulk 22LRs right on top of each other. I've yet to shoot it at longer distances on a rest, but never had any problem at 100 yards with the irons. I just put a cheap 4x fixed scope on it for kicks, and want to take it back out. At 100 yards, my eyes are the problem, not the gun.

An unreliable 10-22 is unusual.I'd call Ruger.Their service is usually great.

From all the various rifles I've shot at scout camps, the lowly 981 T is still one of my favorites. I also think it shoots great and it has an excellent mag capacity. But the best part is its price. The time I shot that Marlin was by far one of the most fun range trips I've ever had. (Back in those days, it was the only time I ever got to shoot guns, so it was even more special).

I think it is a great buy for the money, but I admit that I ended up buying a CZ-452. (Which I don't regret either BTW )

Um what rock have you been living under? Being unreliable is what 10/22's excel at out of the box lol. After some design flaw remedies I love mine though.

The Savage bull barrel series are all great choices just dont get one of the plastic stocks cause they flex really bad, changing your poi.

Marlins are another awesome choice. 981T series simply wont jam and they are super accurate.

Marlin 925 is another option. Straight shooter, and simply a beautiful rifle. Got one for my son for Xmas and he loves it!

This is next on my 'buy list'. I like to practice indoors with Colibris and tube magazines seem to work better with those.

Does anyone know how Marlin's T-900 Fire Control System compares to the Savage Accutrigger?
