Grandfathers old 22lr Rifle

I recently came across my grandfathers Squires and Bingham 22lr rifle who had passed years ago.
I cleaned it up for a trip to the range when I was told that my grandfather possibly bought the gun from a friend 20 years ago and was not registered to him.My question is what step should I take next so I dont get in trouble?I did a decent job of restoring this rifle for my 6 year old which will be his 1st gun.Any info will be appreciated

Long rifles are not registered in CA. Get some bullets and take your son to the range.
