    New CMMG upper-question...

I've been reading here as I waited for my CMMG upper (chrome collar was BO till beginning of this month) and setup my dedicated lower. Got the un-notched hammer, and had assembled the lower without a buffer/spring and no retainer spring/pin using an old A1 stock. Well, I got the lower Thursday and it comes with a CAR spring and what looks like a CAR buffer. What I've been reading here, and what I see in the upper (looks real nice, thanks CMMG!) leads me to believe I don't need to install a buffer. (I would rather use the parts saved on my next build). So now I am thinking I would run with a buffer till I am confident the bolt will stay put or am I reading more into this buffer CMMG sent than I should?

It also looks like it was function fired-I cleaned the bore and lubed it in prep for today's shoot and found a lot of black came out.

Oh, obligatory pic below (and yes the ceramic finish is real nice and it is really dark.) Spikes lower, parts-bin lower bits, old A1 stock and grip, Magpul BUIS, Arms riser, Warne rings an old Bushnell 3-9 for now.

Oops me bad. I checked my order and had ordered the tube and buffer...
Still... no reason to run one in a. 22lr?

The CMMG dedicated barrel/bolt has a spring detent that snaps onto a groove on the barrel extension. It won't come loose.
      No buffer or spring needed.
And yes, they are each test fired at the factory.

Give us a range report when you can!

Shadow is correct... No buffer/buffer spring is really needed for the upper.

Hell, I think some guys have run then without buffer tubes even... Just make sure the rifle meets the OAL requirements for rimfire (26" I believe) if you did want to run without a stock/buffer tube.

The pistols use the same bolt/barrel set up with no buffer tube.
