    Snap Caps and dry fire

I purchased some .22 lr tipton snap caps so that i could practice dry fireing in my new .22 rifle, however when they arrived i found out that they do not have anything in the center of the cap for the firing pin to strike, would it be a good idea to fill this hole with silicone cauking or rtv, or is the snap cap fine as is

    Is this a joke?
Never initiate force against another. That should be the underlying principle of your life. But should someone do violence to you, retaliate without hesitation, without reservation, without quarter, until you are sure that he will never wish to harm - or never be capable of harming - you or yours again.

    - from THE SECOND BOOK OF KYFHO
    (Revised Eastern Sect Edition)

      ...RIMfire.

they do not have a primer in the CENTER of the cartridge. that is why they are known as rimfire and centerfire.

put it in your gun fire it and you will be able to see where the firing pin is hitting.

Go to Home Depot and buy some #4 plastic wall anchors (they are yellow). They work great for dry firing. Will even load in a magazine and be ejected by the extractors in a bolt action rifle. Don't know but should also work in a semi by cycling bolt. About $4 for 100. Oh, they don't have anything in the center either.

thanks for the tip ill give that a try

sorry i did not fully understant that the fireing pin struck the rim instead of the center, i assumed rimfire described how the bulllet set in the barrel, thankyou for clarifying, and thanks for the help

Well, one has to learn some in some way.

For me, it was rifle shooting merit badge back in the day. God, I can't believe how terrible I shot @ 50 feet in those days!

All the different rimfire snap caps I have used got chewed up quick after dry firing.

I just bought a knife and one side is sharp, but the other one isn't. Is this normal?!?!?!

Hahahaha - JK OP! Congrats on your new .22 purchase. They're a lot of fun.

Some other questions I'd like to know the answer to:
                              • When the instructions say pull back the bolt, I'm not seeing a part with a nut or even threads on it -- is my gun defective?

                              • I see a forearm on my shotgun, but where is the afterarm?

                              • The range guy told me to muzzle my gun the other day, but I don't have a little hood thingy to go over the barrel, like I do for my dog's snout -- where can I buy one?

                              • The little red ring I see on the safety -- is that like a stop light, and red means the gun is stopped (not working) or what?

                              • My rifle manual talks about the "butt" of the gun, which I think is part of the stock, but I can't find a crack or a hole -- am I looking in the right place?

                              Inquiring minds want to know.
