    RWS R50 match ammo

I was gifted an entire brick of RWS R50 ammo last night. (I didn't know what it was so I went and googled it!).

Not wanting to ruin a good thing, I am wondering, is there a special way to shoot this ammo given that lube it's covered in?

If I been shooting some standard cheap bulk stuff (both LRN and CW), is it OK just to throw in the R50 when I felt like shooting it? Or do I need to pull the snake through the bore and start fresh with R50?

What rifle? If its just a blaster, shoot away. If your shooting a precision rig, I would clean the barrel, then shoot 20 or so rounds to get it fowled with the new bullet/lube, then stick with the RWS untill its gone. FWIW, I didn't find that ammo accurate in my Savage Mark 2.

In my former life when I stocked cases of R50 in my house, it was for my Fas 602. Some target pistols are picky about what they're fed, so the Fas is one of those picky eaters

It's just for my CZ 452 Trainer, the only .22 rifle I have.

Clean the bore to rid it of all fouling from previous ammo. Season it with 10 rounds and then shoot away. That ammo didn't shoot well in my Savage MKII but did shoot really good in my CZ UltraLux so might do well in your CZ. Wolf MT shoots the best in my CZ though not a lot better than the RWS 50. If you change to another ammo you may find the first few rounds will shoot great then fall off in accuracy. That's due to the left over lube from the RWS. Anytime I change to another ammo that has a different lube I always clean the bore first. Saves time and ammo while the barrel adjusts to the new ammo.

Thanks, Izzy. I trust your experience; I've also seen your Ultra Lux groups, so yeah.

Any particular reason as to why it wasn't the hottest in your Mk.2 Savage? I thought those are supposed to shoot like lasers, like the CZs.

The MKII are supposed to be like lasers and mine is as long as I use Wolf MT. I have run at least 20 different types of ammo, including bulk, target, SV, HV, round nose, hollow point, and it shoots best with the Wolf, OK with Eley Sport, American Eagle 38 gr HP and Aguila Pistol Match.

They can be finicky guns with ammo choices and action screw torque. Some days it shoots great, others, oh well. I like my CZ much better as it doesn't have those issues. Wish I had bought the CZ first.

Same here. I have tried Federal Match, RWS50, Green tag, CCI SV, Remington match, Wolf and SK standard plus. Only the Wolf and Standard plus (they are the same ammo, different box) shoots fantastic out of my Savage. I have some Eley Team and Aguila match rifle to test, but I'm not holding my breath. Wolf is cheap and available, whats not to like.

I was actually considering a Mk.2, but I ended up with that CZ. I am happy, and it looks like the right choice.

Though once at scout camp (back in the day) they had Mk.2s, and I thought they were pretty nice with their little accutrigger.
