Bolt catch on 22L upper inop...

Is this normal or can I fix this...?

When a mag is emptied - The bolt does not stay back. Also the bolt catch won't engage without a mag in the lower.

It works fine with another upper - So I'm guessing it's the mags (S&W) or the bolt assembly. Or it's normal...

Please advise...

only BDM mags will catch the bolt... the regular bolt catch does not work on ar-22 uppers.

If you have an Atchison type conversion, you can drop in a CMMG Bolt Hold Open Actuator and use the BHOA mags for true bolt hold open.
Bolt can be manually locked back or lock back on the last round. When the mag is dropped, the bolt stays back.
