Ruger Single Six, Three Screw Question

Quick question...looking at purchasing used Single-Six this morning. Revolver has both 22LR and 22Mag cylinders, gun does not appear to have been shot extensively due to lack of wear on cylinders and breech. Blueing is about gone. The revolver has never been sent back for recall either.

My question is, I looked at the rifling and was a little concerned at how light it looks. Rifling appears to be consistent from end to end...but I've never looked through one of these barrels before so I don't know how deep the rifling should be. Reminds me of Marlins micro-groove rifling. Does anyone have an idea regarding this? Should the rifling be fairly deep? Anyhelp would be appreciated.

Looking at purchasing this morning. Price is $150 This sound reasonable? It appears to be about mid-range for gun in its condition.

The groves on my dad's aren't real deep either. However it shoots like a champ.

Appreciate the info. WIfe gave the ok...after a lot of hesitation... Just thought I'd get a little input first. Shallow grooves was only thing that really concerned me. Lack of bluing wasn't real big issue...it looks weathered but very sound mechanically and doesn't have any signs of abuse.
Been wanting one for years...let one slip away last year at same shop. It was a new model in pristine condition...I believe it was $220. KIcked myself ever since. When I get this one, I don't plan on selling so guess value isn't to much of concern.

The price is fair for its condition. Rifling isn't what I'd describe as "deep."

That is a good buy though. The 22 Magnum has quite the sharp report from a revolver.

If you want the real dope on this gun, post your questions (mfg date, etc) on the rimfire forum at www.rugerforum.com. Give them the aprox. serial and other specs and you'll learn a lot about it.

dfletcher is right; wear ear protection when you shoot this, ESPECIALLY when shooting .22 WRM. Pop a ground squirrel or two for me!

Not 100% sure on this (but close), I believe if the gun is sent in for repair or even refinish Ruger will do the conversion whether requested or not. They used to include the old parts with the gun, don't know if they still do that, I believe they do not. That would pretty much keep me from sending it to them for any reason.

Done deal. Out of jail date of Feb. 7....like always, it falls on store closed date! Anyway...looked it over more when I purchased...it was made in 1962. 22LR cylinder is in very good condition with most blueing intact...very little wear seen on it. It was in the little red bag that I guess was standard for the extra cylinder. The 22mag cylinder has same wear as rest of revolver, very little blueing left. But no rust or any other signs of abuse.
From the looks of the cylinders, it must have been used to shoot 22mag most of the time. Can see some wear on face of cylinder where it is indexed.

I will certainly not send it in to ruger under any circumstances. Like the idea of the Old Model. Trigger feels great(dropped it on my other index finger!). Read on another forum...that if it gets sent in...it will basically come back like new and with safety features. Great service from Ruger...but think I will keep it As Is. Will post pictures of my new worn friend when I take possesion.

You got a heckova deal. I had one last year and sold to pay for another gun I bought on GB. But my kids still talk about the 'Cowboy Gun' and wonder why I sold it...

The WMR round IS really awesome. It has a sound like no other handgun or rifle. Wish I had a semi-auto rifle that would shoot that round...

This will be first firearm chambered for 22mag that I've owned. Lots of other calibers including 22LR and 17HMR, but looking forward to this one. Been talking to wife for over 15 years about buying one...so was excited to get this one. Told her I would still like to purchase a New Model in Stainless steel.

I'll make sure I don't disappoint my kids like that 'orangeusa'! Ha Ha
