    6" vs 16" barrel .22LR accuracy?

Hello all. I have a 15-22 rifle and have been thinking about the 15-22 pistol. Does anyone know what type of accuracy one could get from it compared to the rifle? I'm assuming all things being equal.

BOTH pistol and rifle having a scope mounted to the upper receiver. From what i've read the .22LR doesn't really lose much speed at 6" vs 16".

So all things being equal, (using a receiver mounted scope) is a 6" barrel much less accurate than a 16" barrel for the .22LR round?

Actually many times the shorter barrel is more accurate. If you shoot high velocity ammo through a short enough barrel it wont get going fast enough to break the sound barrier so it flies more straight. Marvel guaranties 1" or better out of their nicer 1911 conversions at 50 yards, and thats with a 5" barrel.

I would predict that you will get almost the same accuracy out of the 2 variants at shorter distances. The trade off to a slower velocity is a lower accuracy at a longer distance.

I have heard that keeping the bullets at under the sound barrier improves accuracy but i didn't know if it would be offset by the shorter barrel.

That gives me an idea. What would happen if you "compensated" the rifle barrel (basically just drilled holes in it) to release the pressure at the right length to keep the bullet speed down. or cut cut the barrel and welded a tube to the end of it to keep the length at over 16"?
