Difference between 26 GR and 30 GR 22LR for hunting?

Hi All,

So I ordered the 30 GR Lead Free 22LR Winchester ammo from budsgunshop.com and they mistakenly shipped me the 26 GR. Im wondering if there is a noticeable difference between the two. I am using it for rabbit hunting and I usually take 60 to 75 yard shots. Will the lower weight cause instability at longer distances? Up until now I've been shooting the 36 GR ammo (with lead).

What do you think? Should I return it?

So not a big difference at 70 yards in terms of accuracy?

its a red box silver label? ya i got the same stuff. the high velocity stuff will give you nice flat traject. then after some distance IDK 40-50 yds? a heavier bullet like interceptor or velocitor will have better ballistics. ill get up a pic of the t6061 aluminum heat sink. the tin hyper winchester made a very nice clean 8-ish diameter hole through a section about 4 mm thick. I have no idea what that translates to in terms of hunting. since its tin it'll be edible i think.

Fun fact, for bullets brinell (initial impact) hardness ~15-30 compared to tin i'd imagine the winchester red box stuff that is labelled as tin is probably an alloy harder than typical lead alloys but still soft enough to not cause barrel wear. the tin alloy is probably harder than the lead alloy. at less than 50 yds i think this tin bullet would drill a decent, humane hole and leave more good untainted meat.

bullet placement...bullet placement...bullet placement...rabbits are not hard to kill. even at 75 yards with a 26 gr bullet.

i regularly take rabbits at those ranges with a 14.3 grain pellet from my PCP air rifle.

I'm not doubting that this round will kill a rabbit.. My concern is that the bullet might be a little on the light side for it's high velocity 1650 FPS and not be very stable at long distances. Its the accuracy im worried about.

Why even bother with that expensive, crappy ammo?

Just use regular lead .22 ammo. Any style you like.

Small game is legal with lead.

The place where I hunt is one of those "Condor" zones where you cant hunt with lead.

Doesn't that apply to small game as well?

Edit: You're right.. I just did some reading and it looks like I'm good with lead ammo on rabbits in condor zones. What a relief. Thanks for pointing that out.
