Walther P22 barrel trick?

Hey guys,

Just got a gently used P22 with both 3" and 5" barrels, and comp (threaded! ), but I can't figure out how to change the barrel.

Right now, the 3" is in place. I got the gun broken down to where the barrel will ALMOST slip out of the guide, but it keeps hanging on the rear mechanism parts. No matter which way I twist and finagle the barrel, it won't come all the way out.

The instructions are no help, they just say to pull it to the rear and out. It doesn't work!!

Any ideas?

There is alot of good info there about the p22.We in Ca cant legaly remove our barrels to clean without making a assalt weapon. Our barrels have been permanatly attached.

Still no use. That website didn't have much help on this, more along the lines of complete tear down, but they left the barrel in place!

Damn. Was hoping I didn't have to tear this thing up.

Any more ideas?

Go to youtube and search p22 barrel . There are several videos removing the barrels.Are you having trouble removing the slide or the barrel? After the slide is off you need the barrel wrench to remove the threaded cap that holds the barrel sleve and barrel on . Does your endcap have the slots for the wrench? If not you may have a ca model which does not have the barrel wrench grove and is epoxyed on. Ill look for some more pics for you.

I've got the barrel end cap off, and the sleeve is off too. I can ALMOST get it off, but it seems like it's catching on the ejector and base.

Seems like if I pry the thing a little, it will come out, but I don't want to take a chance on bending the barrel. Plus, it seems that the longer barrel will be even harder!!

In one of the videos it mentions rotating the barrel to continue pushing back and out

I think I figured it out. At the front of the block that the barrel rides in, where the notch of the barrel slide fits in, there is some metal pushed up into the circle of where the barrel rides.

Just enough to keep the front of the barrel from pushing down far enough, I think.

I'll probably have to send it to S&W for some work, lifetime warranty and all!

Think that sounds like the problem?
