compared to other .17hmr bolt action how do you guys like it?

I have the 917VS-CF with the stainless bull barrel, and it is outstandingly accurate. The Marlin triggers are a little heavy than it needs to be (probably what's known as a lawyer's trigger), but if you fit it with the Basix trigger upgrade, you will end up with a really excellent varmint slayer: http://www.midwayusa.com/viewProduct...tNumber=253264

If you point a gun at someone and it is fired, having a heavy trigger is not going to mitigate the fact that you shot the guy you obviously intended to shoot because you pointed the gun at him in the first place.

I have 917VSF.....
Very nice rifle....out of factory box
You can shoot about 0.8 MOA (0.8" group at 100 yards)
Like they said, the trigger is a little heavier...

I have a 917VSF.

The factory stock, trigger feel, and machining quality of the bolt leaves something to be desired IMO but the rifle is perfectly usable as-is right out of the box if you're not the picky type or lack the urge to "tweak" with something that's brand new.

The mediocre trigger was fixed with a Rifle Basix replacement, the stock was fixed with a Revival Industries thumbhole stock, and the somewhat rough machining quality on the bolt doesn't affect how accurate the rifle is so I'm OK with that.

Great gun for squirrel blasting on the ranch at a very good price point. The 917 has it where it counts (accuracy)-- just don't expect Sako Finnfire/Quad fit & finish quality from it.

Thanks for the legal lecture, but I was referring to the possible theory that some manufacturers in more recent years may have put slightly heavier triggers in their guns for the purpose of protecting themselves (the manufacturer) from liability in today's litigious society.

i just got one and was thinking what you guys had to say about it
i like my marlin 60 so desided to keep it close and get the marlin 917 and not the savage arms 17hmr rifle
