    Blazer 500 vs 525

OK so i am bulk buying some .22 LR ammo and i am wondering if these boxes are the same in every way. I know they are round nose lead 40gr but are they the same bullet. The reason i need to know is i bought a box of Blazer 525 locally but i found a good deal on-line for 500. This is to feed in my marlin 60 which i found out after buying 5000rds of golden crap from Remington- it does not like

    Thanks!

There are two different kinds of Blazer. The better stuff is made by CCI and is sold in the 500 round boxes. Each 50 round box is loaded on a clear plastic tray with no legs.

Federal also makes some Blazer and instead of clear plastic, the loading trays are milky white and have legs. I have been told that the loose bulk 525 round brick is also Federal made. My guns dont really like the Federal Blazer but love the CCI Blazer.

With the 525 that i shot tonight i only had one bad FTE in 400 rd. But the Super x i bought jammed my Marline 4 times in 50rd. Also shoot some Winchester 333 pack that it like. But the rem subsonic it had some fte but that could also be cause its sub-sonic.

Does the 500 pack have close tolerances, it seems my Marline has issue with bullets that are too big like with the rem. Good info to know thanks!

I've had less than stellar performance from the 25 boxes. I will only use the 500rd boxes now. I don't know why but it is different. I'm not the only one that has come to that conclusion either. Other people had the same issues ( FTF, FTE ) with their guns a they went away when we switched to the 50rd boxes.

that may have been true year's ago, but what you are buying now it is all CCI...the only difference between 500 brick and 525 loose is 25 extra bullets...if you know how to read box codes you can confirm it.

i use blazer in only one gun and i have done "brick vs bulk" multiple times; i CANNOT ascertain any difference in feed or fire performance between the two types, and believe me if there was i would scream long and hard; i do not like cheap ammo in general (my normal buy are bricks of 40gr minimags).

now why both are priced the same is a marketing mystery to me...usually that would tell me they're phasing out the 500 brick, but i have heard nothing about that being the case...

it should, unless you're convinced that bullets dropped haphazardly into a box are ruined vs. those put neatly in tiny plastic racks...

let me ease your thinking a bit...federal box codes begin with a number, cci codes begin with a letter...i just got a case of cci 525 in; they all lead with a letter, all from lewiston, ID...still got half a box of federal 525, leads with a number...got a box of fed automatch, leads with a number...

got one brick of 500 blazer, no code (what's up with that?) but it's fine.

now here's the kicker...got a few boxes of federal 375 (red box), those begin with a letter...the scuttlebutt is that fed 375 was produced by cci, hence the "letter" code...you see that one at a price, hit it...

That line made me laugh, thanks for all the time you spent on this. Since i shoot the ruined bullets then i guess the babyed bullets will work fine.

I've been reading about this 500 v. 525 Blaser mystery but was wondering why they would be different since both Federal and CCI are the same company under the Alliant Techsystems umbrella.

IMO, the reason the 500 brick and the 525 are the same price is due to packaging.

the 500 comes with 10 individually contained 50 round boxes, while the 525 is just all loose in the box. the 500 takes more money to package due to the extra plastic holders and individual boxes. which the 525 is just 1 box.

Approximately half of my .22lr ammo stash consist of the Blazer 40 gr. lead nose ammo, which is packaged 500 rounds (10/50) per box. I have never tried the 525 boxes of this particular ammo.

The Blazer works perfectly in my 15-22, MK III, and a couple of conversion kits. Last year, I would guess that I went through some 20k rounds of the Blazer. This year, I will most likely shoot more of the said and keep the copper washed ammo in reserve.

Last of the stash to arrive from Palmetto State Armory, shortly. Unfortunately, I have never purchased this ammo other than from on-line vendors, as with the rest of my .22lr ammo.

has to be, but really; is the market such that there would be a significant loss in sales of blazer if they only did loose bulk and no neat and clean bricks...guess so...

...so one would not take an additional 25 bullets simply due to perception...that's werd.
