The easiest way to tell the difference between the first generation GSG-5 and the later ones is to look at the front sight blade assembly. The first generation has a set screw to hold the sight in on the front of the sight assembly. The second (and third) generation models have the set screw for the sight on the right side of the front sight assembly.
