I do it at redwoodgunclub all the time. I don't typically off-hand it but have at times. I can regularly hit the 24" gong which looks about what he has going on there. I have a good 3-4' or more of drop on it so you have to really really overcompensate for the drop and just be consistent with your elevation. Its not that hard, but just know you're kind of throwing money down the hole in bigger bore ammo and handguns. I have shot my super redhawk at 200 yards, and my 6 7/8" slab site MKIII out there. Its much more satisfying hitting it with the .44 as you can really hear the thwack of the gong. He must be using some really thin metal if he's making it ping at 200 with .22lr. Nice shooting though either way.

          Bombadillo,

Are you aiming at the beam above the 200 yard gong? That's the aim point for a Marlin 22. Nice to know I'm not the only person that tries this at the Redwood range.

Yeah, I'm aiming roughly at the cross beam that the gong is being held on by. I typically aim there or a little higher some days depending on wind and ammo, and I'm able to hit it relatively often. Its a blast for much cheaper than my .44mag costs!

They must have got a new gong out there at the Redwood club. I remember it to be an old semi truck rim handing from a chain, granted that was 3-4 years ago...

And greg, I still like shooting the SKS out there at the gong. Been a great gun, thanks again.

My .22 target rifle takes about 23 MOA (from a 50 yard zero) to get to 200 yards, so that about a 4 foot holdover one would have to do. It would be less with higher velocity ammo than the 1050 FPS target ammo I shoot.
