10/22 sling options

OK, so I have a bit of a problem with my 10/22. Ever since I did my FrankenRuger conversion, my sling studs are a bit messed up and I need to figure out a way to either work around or change it.

In the photo below, you will see my predicament. On the rear of the stock, there is a sling stud that goes horizontal and at the front is one that goes vertical. Putting a sling on these just twists everything up and doesn't sit right on the shoulder or makes the rifle hard to use with the sling.

Does anyone have any sling suggestions?



Just to clarify, relocating the front sling stud is not possible.

It's a mechanical problem, relocation is possible.

How about a safari style sling mount? The kind that have a ring around the barrel. Mount it close to the forend and should be usable.

It is a Butler Creek bullpacker stock mated to a Butler Creek folding stock to make a compact 10/22.

The barrel comes off the gun. No barrel band possible.

Will the sling you desire be a carrying-aid only, or are you planning to have it viable as a shooting-aid as well? I believe it matters.

A full profile picture of the rifle might help us visualize what you are after, come to think of it.

I believe to "effectively" use a 2-point sling as a shooting aid like a hasty sling, you'd want the forward mount to be where it is located currently, but have the rear sling at the base of the stock, near the butt-pad.

Given you are doing the collapsible setup, you might try something attached perhaps on the underside of where that folding hinge/locking arrangement for the stock is located? Maybe even attach into the pistol grip right above your hand, if needed.

If you just go with the "tacticool" single-point sling arrangement, the rear sling swivel might not be so bad really, depending on how your swivel is set up... or maybe try the above location as well.

Ideally, you'd have a sling point on the forward part, where you have it, and at the tail end of the stock, but that obviously isn't an option unless you make everything quick-detach (which might not be such a bad idea to begin with). A quick-snap ring or other similar set up on the end of the stock and under the hinge might give you options to swap the 2-point between a shorter one for folded stock and full length with stock extended to use as a hasty-sling shooting aid, if that makes sense.

Seems like an interesting setup for sure!

PS I hesitate to ask, but with the folding stock in that configuration, does it fall within the 30" minimum length for a rifle to be a rifle in CA and not some sort of other "monstrosity"? I know there's a reason my 15-22 with collapsible stock is still set up with a 16" barrel... to make that minimum 30" length.
