Bought this one (for my springfield 1911 a1) and had to return it because the hammer was stoppig the slide from going all the way back. Didn't get to shoot it because of this issue. The slide will come back only when I pulled the hammer back. Did anyone else have this issue or was this just a bad unit that I got?

Cieners 1911 22lr conversion kit

Where did you buy it? Midway?
Also If I recall right, according to the manual of the Springfield they don't recommend .22lr Kits.
Excerpt from the manual
"The firing pin on some commercial .22 conversion kits protrudes back too far causing the hammer to hit the firing pin when the hammer is in the Safety Stop position. When this occurs the gun could fire and is a potentially dangerous situation. .22 conversion kits with this condition are dangerous and could cause serious injuries. For your safety and the safety of others, these .22 conversion kits should not be used on any Springfield
1911 model pistol."
This is why I went with the Rock Island instead.Current Armory:

What conversion did you go with? I plan on using a RIA frame too.
OP I have read about this problem. If you plan on retrying the same kit or choosing a new one, I suggest doing a search here in the rimfire section and also on rimfirecentral.Comment

You have a GI Springfield? I know there are a ton of people running a SA frame with conversions despite the warning in the manual. Well you can always sell the SA for enough to get a RIA to convert. Or better yet you can keep the SA a 45, and buy an RIA to have a dedicated 22 conversion

Good luck with JA Cieners customer service they are the worst. I'm on the waiting list for a Bob Marvel Custom Pro II conversion unit.

I have a Ciener 22 Conversion kit and it works great on both my Colt 1911 and my RIA Tactical 1911.
From the comments above, this sounds like a problem with the Springfield pistol, not with the Ciener products.
Buy the Ciener kit through Midway USA so you get excellent customer service.Comment

I've been shooting my Kimber conversion on both of my SA's, a Pro and a 1911-A1. The only problem I have had is when the Kimber gets dirty I will have FTE issues. Both SA have had extensive (expensive) trigger work done which may help. I am thinking of getting a RRA for a dedicated 22 and put the SA back together.Comment

i had a kimber on a TRP and Pro and didn't have any issues with the slide...the issues i had were mainly due to the poly mags.
I switched to the Tactical Solutions conversion kit and had the same issue that was described here where it appeared the the hammer was interfering with the top slide from going all the way back. I don't know if it's the same situation but after calling Tactical Solutions, they found with some 1911's, you had to sand down this numb in back of the notch behind the guide rod (the area where the slide stop goes) as it was impacting the back of pistol. Might be worth looking into.Comment

I have a kimber 22lr conversion kit on a kimber custom II. Works reliable and have had no issues in the couple k rounds through it. In the manual for the kit it mentions needing a high velocity round to cycle correctly. CCI stingers work great, would suggest whatever kit you use, it needs enough bang to cycle the slide properly.Comment
