    AB962 and .22LR?

Anyone have an idea of how .22LR will be effected by the AB962 nonsense? As you all know its both a rifle and pistol round, but with the LR name I would think it would be classified as a rifle round.

I certainly hope so. Last time I bought .22LR from Turners, the cashier lady refused to sell "pistol ammo" to a then-18 yr old me. I was quite annoyed, and eventually the manager sorted things out.

I have a bad feeling that there is no "manager" in the California gun equation. Meaning someone to go "no they can do _______ if they want."

Logically though, I doubt that .22lr is included in the ban.

However, I do not know, and am in class so I feel that looking up the relevant info would be time consuming; anyone wanna help out?
This business will get out of control. It will get out of control and we'll be lucky to live through it.

It has me concerned as well. "Logic" isn't something the CA legislature is renown for.

You can count on people puttin it on the no fly list. I get carded for it at walmart all the time. They get really confused when I point out that they carry Federal .410 Handgun ammo and sell it to people under 21, but they only sell .22 Long Rifle ammo to 21 and older. Then they get really confused when i tell them that a .410 handgun is illegal in CA so stocking ammo for it makes no sense at all. About this time is when I point out that just about every single caliber they stock can be fired from either a rifle or a pistol, so the logic behind only selling .22lr to 21+ should be applied to all their ammo, otherwise it's not fair. That's usually when I get the "hey man, i just work here and the computer is telling me you gotta be 21"....(good thing I'm 25)

I ended up not really arguing with a WM employee who for five minutes wanted me to say that my 22lr ammo was for a rifle when I have both a rifle and a pistol. All of this so he wouldnt have to check my ID which he then had to check because I used a card. Its nice that he was trying to help I suppose but didnt end up being very helpful.

There was a addition to AB 962 that failed that included some popular rifle calibers like .223, 7.62x39, and .22LR. This addition to AB962 did fail and is was not signed into law.

Have you noticed at WallyMart when you buy ammo they ask you rifle or pistol with the 22lr?

Yup almost every time. I usually answer "both"

I think its going to be on the list of pistol ammo. There are 18.4 Gadgillion 22lr pistols in the state. I dont have any source to back it up but this is kalifornia after all......

If any legalese folks have any solid info on how the new law is interpreted with respect to rimfire cartridges, it should probably be stickified on this forum... especially as we get closer and closer to the dreaded Feb 2011.

Unless all the groups working to put a stay on the law going into effect are successful, of course!

there is no solid info on how the law will be interpreted regarding what is, and isn't, handgun info, including how rimfire ammo will be classified. And IIRC, CADOJ has specifically stated that they will not be writing any regulations to clarify "handgun ammo" so that the sellers will know what's what.

That is one of the points of the lawsuits against the implementaion of AB962.

I have noticed that. If you look at their little register when they ring you up, some calibers trigger it to display: "For Handgun?" The cashier then hits buttons on the register that correspond to either a "yes" or "no" answer.

What I can't remember is exactly what it displays after they hit their button. I'm PRETTY SURE it displays "Before XX/YY/19ZZ?" that results in an age of either 18 or 21. They then hit "yes" or "no" again.

I'm not 100% on the second phrasing of the second part, but I'm certain it is a two part process, and I know I have the verbiage of the first part exactly.

it would seem to me that the logical answer to the question of "handgun or rifle?" would be rifle.

if you have both .22 cal rimfire rifles and handguns, you're purchasing it for the rifle...

as was said earlier: California legislature is not noted for their logic
