    GSG 1911 22LR

Just got a message from ATI that they are trying to obtain permission here in PROC (People's Republic of California). I was told via email that testing may take six months. Can't wait for this one.
Damn democrats are turning me into a republican.

I've posted about them on here before and I can't say enough good things about the one that I have. Really fun pistol to shoot. Accurate and reliable.
    Great plinking fun!!! Here's mine...

Not going to happen. "obtain permission"? What is that? If the gun doesn't have loaded chamber indicator and magazine disconnect, dont even think about it.

I hope ATI can make it work to come to PROC.
        OldRice, how does it shoot?

I have one and have put well over 1000 rounds through it. Everybody who likes 1911s likes this one. I've tried 8 different types of ammo and it has worked with them all.

Looks / feels / operates like my centerfire 1911s, not ammo finicky, accurate. I like this one:

          Pictured with my Armscor
The takedown is overly complicated but it does use a fixed barrel which probably helps with feeding. There have been reports of problems but I've had none.

People don't like to be meddled with. We tell them what to do, what to think, don't run, don't walk. We're in their homes and in their heads and we haven't the right. We're meddlesome.

I've got about 2300 rounds through mine to date. I don't "target shoot" per se, but I love to plink. I've got the tallest of the front sight blades in it, and I can consistently wack cans and bottles with it at 50+ yards. Points nice too, and "combat" stuff is as easy as it is with any other 1911 platform - except that the grip safety is a little sensitive to pressure, but I've gotten used to that.

The trigger was 4.5 lbs right out of the box and it's getting even better - it's easily down around 4 lbs or less now. It's reliable too. The only FTFs that I've experienced were due to the ammo. It likes Federal bulk pack from WalMart and fires CCI Mini Mags and Stingers with authority. (That's the only stuff that I've fired through mine so far.)

I really like mine alot and am planning on buying another one in the near future. I hope that you all are able to get them out there. If you do, I think you're going to like them.

To get it on the CA DOJ list. I guess permission is not the exact word for it is it? But I think you got the message.

Some of the early ones had barrel bushing failures but GSG fixed the problem. The barrel bushing is not a dedicated .22 bushing. It is the same as most other 1911 style pistols.

...and there were problems with the early slide stops and some of the magazine followers too. ATI has been replacing all of the inferior parts quickly and for free. All anyone has had to do is to call them and give them the serial number from their pistol. The parts come in a week or less.

The pistol is brand new and has been on the market for less than a year. There were bound to be teething problems with it and it sure seems like ATI is doing their best to rectify the problems with the guns.

I've read mixed reports too, but the majority of posts about these pistols are positive -- especially after the new parts have been installed.

I have one. I like it.

Rimfire semi-auto pistols require a magazine disconnect, in order to be eligible for testing to get placed on the approved list. Rimfire semi-auto pistols do not require a chamber load indicator. [PC 12126(b)(6)]

The GSG 1911 comes with a magazine disconnect.

                          However...
The GSG 1911 also comes with a threaded barrel, which makes it an assault weapon. [PC 12276.1(a)(4)(A)]

A non-threaded barrel version of the GSG 1911, would make it eligible for testing to get on the approved list.

                          Penal Code 12126
As used in this chapter, "unsafe handgun" means any pistol, revolver, or other firearm capable of being concealed upon the person, as defined in subdivision (a) of Section 12001, for which any of the following is true:
                          (b) For a pistol:
                          (6) Commencing January 1, 2006, for all rimfire semiautomatic pistols that are not already listed on the roster pursuant to Section 12131, it does not have a magazine disconnect mechanism, if it has a detachable magazine.

                          Penal Code 12276.1
                          (a) Notwithstanding Section 12276, "assault weapon" shall also mean any of the following:
                          (4) A semiautomatic pistol that has the capacity to accept a detachable magazine and any one of the following:
                          (A) A threaded barrel, capable of accepting a flash suppressor, forward handgrip, or silencer.
                          (B) A second handgrip.
                          (C) A shroud that is attached to, or partially or completely encircles, the barrel that allows the bearer to fire the weapon without burning his or her hand, except a slide that encloses the barrel.
                          (D) The capacity to accept a detachable magazine at some location outside of the pistol grip.

I've wondered why there isn't a non-threaded barrel for the CA market. They have to know they're missing a lot of sales.

I emailed ATI last November and asked for an update on when the GSG 1911
would be available in Kalifornia. They have all I's dotted and T's crossed
with the DOJ regulations. The pistol currently is at a testing lab going through
whatever voodoo those guys put them through. According to the
guy from ATI there is only 3 labs in the country that the Ca DOJ does
buisness with and they are all swamped with various projects. They
couldn't give ATI an estimate as to when it will be done. When the lab
does finish it shouldn't take too long to have it on the market here. I
want one real bad too! I keep checking the DOJ website and 1911 forum
                              for any news.
