It's legal to have a flash suppressor, pistol grip and a detachable mag (10 rounds only) on this rifle because it's a .22, right? Or does the same rules apply to .22s?

Also, where's the cheapest place to pick one up? I live in the Central Valley, near Fresno.

You're good with whatever you want on a .22.

Big 5 is the best place, generally. I got mine at the MAdera Big 5 on sale for like $459 + fees a couple months back.

also note rimfire does not require a bullet button in CA either (as evidenced by the off-the-shelf 15-22s).

Just keep to 26" over all length, 16" barrel, and don't do anything stupid like modify for full auto

There is no such thing as a .22LR rifle assault weapon in CA law.

Since the S&W 15-22's magazine is a new design and proprietary (if memory serves) its likely you would attract unwanted attention if you had a stack of the 25 round high caps that go with it, even though technically owning them and using them in that rifle would be legal. Its the importing, assembly, and selling of those mags thats a no no

modify existing ones to full capacity?

Yes, that is legal. Our assault weapon laws only apply to semi-auto centerfire rifles (see flowchart) and .22's are rimfire. Here is mine:



I ordered it from here and asked Grant to swap out the 25-rd mag for a CA-legal 10-rd mag. It looks like he is currently sold out.

No, you cannot do either of those things, as the first would be importing and the second would be manufacturing. Both are illegal. For more info, see here in the FAQ: Magazine Questions

S&W makes both 10/10's and 10/25's. The rifles ship with a 10/25, which pisses me off to no end. Makes it really hard to use a bipod.

Yeah, I know. I have a 15-22 with the 10-25 and the 10 round shorties. I just thought the grass showing through the spring in that picture were rounds in the magazine. My mistake.

Yes. G&R Tactical was the only place I could find that had the flat dark earth MOE model in stock. They seem to be selling like hot cakes.

I just picked up my 15-22 today... the long magazines seem fine if you use something like a Grip Pod. I can see that a normal bipod might be a problem with the long magazines though... but this would be true anytime you want to use a bipod with an AR-style rifle and standard 30-round magazines, no?

I guess being in CA, 10-round magazines are a "benefit" if you plan to do a lot of bipod/bench shooting!

In anycase, S&W already shipped me two 10/10 shortie magazines that I ordered... they are backordered on the 10/25's still.

The image that Grizzly posted appears to be the MOE edition... aside from the accessories, the single-point sling-swivel on the rear of the receiver gives it away I think.

Thanks. Have you seen the A1 comp style? Id like to get the moe style but if you put on scope the folding sights are useless and is it better then the original sights?

Rimfire is exempt. Your good with all theses feature, you just have to fallow the 10 round rule.

If you have a scope on there, you're probably not going to be using your folding sights anyway, right? Not at the same time as the scope, at least?
