I would personally go with a 10/22. They are having a sale at Bass Proshop. I can't remember the exact price but it was very cheap.

if its going to be your first. then yea, you cant go wrong with a 10/22 for a semi
otherwise a 452 bolt gun is also a good choice for a repeater

          Ruger 10/22

Hands down! Ruger 10/22 Carbine almost anywhere for 220.00 or a little less. Nice Simmons .22Mag 3-9x scope and it comes with rings, and you will be out the door with a nice rifle and scope for right at 300 which would include tax and DROS. It will also give you a great platform to start building on when you get the bug to customize it.
This was a standard carbine once,

          So was this,

And, if you like, you can use a file and sandpaper and make that plain, boring birch stock a little classier!

A 10/22 isnt a good first rifle IMO. I would recommend getting a Savage BV or FV or a Marlin 981T or 981TS if you want a good accurate rifle that wont jam.

That stock is a "Barracuda" and is the best offhand shooting stock you can find in my opinion. Still like to shoot the 10/22 standard carbine though! Get one, you won't be sorry.

i was looking into the rugers but i wasn't sure their price so i thought id ask you all what you prefered and i suppose the 10/22 is in that price range that im in.

I will admit that they can pretty finicky with junk ammo, but all of mine feed Winchester 333, 555, Federal Auto-Match, which are relatively cheap bulk stuff, almost flawlessly.

+$120ish for the S&W ar-15 ish rifle. I hear good things about that one. The extra coin satisfies any tacticool inclinations you may have (I admittedly do ) and they are 22lr purpose designed so they do as well as traditional designs.

theres alot of good semi auto .22s on the market though non can probably match the tons of after market parts that are available for the 10/22. -->blue gun case and point
accuracy wise it can perform with the right parts =$$$ personally I cant justify the expense to myself, but then again I cant work the bolt on my Anschutz as fast as the 10/22 shoots

I personally have never had a functionality problem with my 10/22. It shoots 3 round groups smaller than a quarter no problem and thats with a factory barrel and stock.

Plus 1 for the 10-22. I've never had an issue with mine and the aftermarket is already there offering incredible options.
