How do you reload a Marlin 60?

I've searched on youtube and all i've found is that you can either take the tube out or take the tube about 3/4s of the way out.

Is there a way to reload the rifle without extending the tube like that? It could be a bit awkward in an enclosed space (indoor range).

No, as Larry Potterfield says, "That's the way it is".

First you check to make sure both the chamber and the magazine are empty.

Then you lock the bolt open and keep the barrel pointed straight up.

Next hold the rifle in one hand (keeping the muzzle pointed up) and use the other hand to unlatch and completely remove the follower.

Set the follower on a table/counter and start loading ammo thru the little .22lr shaped cut-out on the side of the tube, all the while keeping the muzzle pointed up.

When the magazine is filled, re-insert the follower and re-latch it (muzzle still pointed up).

Point the muzzle downrange and charge the bolt twice and you are ready to rock.

I could do the reloading in a phone booth, if I could find a phone booth.

I like to lock the bolt back also... That loader Donny mentioned is pretty cool. It's funny that in the Cabelas pictures the rounds are in backwards.

But as mentioned, just remove the whole rod, load and replace the rod.
I don't like the little 22LR cutout myself....

My Glenfield will allow 17, but I load 15....

Be happy it holds more than ten. I have an older 60 and it holds 18. Yes, to bad the loader is 15 per tube.

Those work great. You can reload in a few seconds with that.

I've had 2 of those speedloaders.Work great.Rounds in pic might not be backward. Some tube mags (Brownings and copies) load from the rear.

If you are keeping the muzzle pointed down range like you should, how could the tube cause a limited space problem?
I prefer holding the rifle at a 45 degree angle when reloading. Maybe that is just a habit from having a tube fed centerfire .32 Long Colt.
I use the loading slot on all my Marlins that have them: 1892 (the above mentioned 32 caliber), 1897, 39 and the 60.
I do remove the inner tube when I have a loading malfunction; it's great for quick and safe ammo removal.

Yeah those loaders look nice but don't forget you have to load the loader, takes nearly as much time as just loading the tube. Only upside is you can load the loader before you go to the range but then again just one more thing to carry with you. A little awkward to carry around if you are hunting. I have my own loader, he's my grandson, he loves loading the rifle. Cheap too.

Do a test sometime, have a buddy load the loader while you are loading the mag and see just how much time is saved. You might be surprised.

Yes Izzy, but if you have 4-5 of those loaders you can do it at home before you go to the range. While at the range your time is spent shooting and NOT loading the rifle.

i have the speedee loader i use with my remington pump

its more of a time shifter than a time saver as you have to load the 8 tubes one at a time and the nozzle is kind of tricky how you have to lift and rotate

also a little trick i did is make a line with a sharpie to how many rounds my tube holds (not really a number but a length cause yo know it can hold more if you use shorts)

if you are empty you can just load them one by one in the chamber

the old nylon 66 (i guess a copy of the old winchester 22automatic) was neat how you loaded them in the butt and they kind of just funnel in but you still have to take out the plunger tube

They make 19rd Spee-d-loaders, you can order direct here. MTPE has great customer service.

I love my Spee-d-loaders. Load both up and I can shoot 240rds easy and fast.
