    peep sights for a Marlin

Looked into getting mil type peep sights for my new-to-me Marlin 795. I want to use in at a Appleseed class. So after looking I came on this web site:

Pretty much convinced me to go to Tech Sights. Anyone have any different opinions?

Selecting a correct peep rear/globe front sight can make a tremendous difference in your shooting. Are you allowed to use an adjustable peep rear or are there any limits to the size of either? Is there a restriction on which type of front aperture insert you can use?

On target rifles I use Redfield Olympic & International type peep/globe for iron sights and the Merit adjustable peep or a Parker Hale adjustable peep with color filters, each has a very large "cup" attached to the peep rear. I use a round globe insert so that I get a very tight "round target within a circle within a circle" sight picture. I generally use a yellow disc insert up front to give a little contrast.

If there are no restrictions AND you are shooting bullseye look at the larger 20MJT globe front with a round insert and a Merit adjustable rear peep with a rubber cup. Here are some sights from Brownells, they're out on some but I'm sure Midway, Sinclair or EA Brown carries them too:

With respect to the rear base, I'd be inclined to go with the Williams simply because it allows for the largest disc.

Setting up really good iron peep sights can be involved. A simple approach would be to get the Williams rear and a large, nonadjustable disc with a Lyman 17 or 20 front globe, round insert. I have this set up on Marlin 1894 and an old NRA Springfield Sporter, my eyes are stil 20/15 or so and and it's a very accurate, basic set up.

From just taking an Appleseed class, I can say that about 90% of the people who don't use some kind of optic are using the Tech sights on their rifles. Most of those rifles are 10/22's.

The one guy in my class with a Marlin shot the best scores and did it with a scope.

They don't have any restrictions on the types of sights including either irons or optics.

Whatever you get, get something that you can pick up the target quickly since the AQT is timed and a minute can go by fast.
