Ruger 10/22 build question

I'm upgrading my 10/22. I want to change the V block. Who makes a good one? Do I need to change the bolts also? I've seen some that say they are better than the factory bolts.

This is what I have so far.
1. Green Mountain 18'' blue fluted barrel
2. Boyd Tacticool Stock in black
3. EGW Picatinny scope base 20 moa
4. Vortex Crossfire 6-24 x 50 scope
5. Volquartsen Hammer, bolt release. trigger
6. Warne med rings
Any other suggestion would be appreciated.

you are going to want a VQ sear unless you want to polish your own. How about a VQ extended mag release?

Why do you think you need a new v-block?

If you are not suffering from barrel droop, why would you want or need a new V block?

Send the barrel in to get threaded to the receiver if you are worried about the vblock. The cost is like $40 from a member over at rimfirecentral

Don't know if I need it, but I figure it's not that expensive of a part. I don't want to put it all together and sight it in just to find out later I need it and do it all over again.

It only takes a couple of minutes to sight in a rifle. If you need help doing your 10-22, let me know. I should be able to zero it (at any distance) in one shot. But, we'll run a couple extra rounds through it to confirm and fine tune it.

V-Block-------- "Gunsmither" has them for sale on Gunbroker & Ebay. I think these can help keep the barrel from moving around. Not better than threading but has to help consistency.

Bolt----------- Kidd and a few others sell high end bolts but just round off the back of yours and set the headspace by grinding the front a little. If you do not know exactly what I am talking about, have a gunsmith do it for you.
I used a silicon carbide stone in a vertical mill to do mine, came out perfect. Next time I would go a little slower as it was exact to spec before I knew it.

Volquartsen extractor is the next purchase I would recommend and has been one of the few I had to have.

Quality ammo is a plus too.

I think the V block your talking about is offered from Skeeters website over in rimfirecentral.com, has a set screw that bumps up against the barrel...adjust it just prior too snugging up V block bolts...supposed too eliminate barrel droop....

I made one for my 10/22 and a couple friends.


Not sure about the correct way to go about the set screw V-block, but I tighten the two bolts that hold the barrel tight to the receiver first and then snug up the set screw. In this way i surmise that I am first not affecting the original theory with the bolts and secondly just adding a small bit of stability. Just my take here.

Another thought is if the set screw is tightened first, it could cause the V-block to become angled and then contact the barrel part of its notch away from the barrel possibly inducing droop??

Bottom line anywhere is if it works for you, go for it.

I will second getting a Volquartsen extractor. Your green mountain barrel has a tighter chamber than the stock barrel. The vq extractors work much better than the ruger extractor. Mark
